Was what he said he did for the campaign illegal?

It may depend on if they knew the information was obtained illegally or not.

(and you'd be hard pressed to tell me how thousands of private DNC emails would be obtained legally by some outside party)

Sessions also lied about this. He said he did not know of any attempt to work with Russians by members of the Trump campaign, but he is the one who shot the idea down.

I thought that was key.

What bothers me is the lying - "We did not meet with the Russians" yet they met with the Russians. Contacts came out later and we heard "I forgot about that" to claims from the Trump administration that "It is not illegal."

But they knew back in April that about Russia, and denied, denied, denied, and were not ethical enough to contact the FBI, then there were lies to the FBI and I think it is going to explode. Papadopoulos was working for the FBI after his arrest - so Mueller has more information that the Trump admin knows.

We all know what's going to happen if Muller does find something illegal Trump did. Those people who seem to follow him no matter what will collectively do this:

All the elements are now in place...are there any Trump followers who now still insist that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and agents of the Russian government?

• The guilty statement by Papadopoulos shows that Trump and his people knew of Russia’s hacking well before the American people did.
• The same statement also reveals that an offer was made to share the material hacked.
• That offer was accepted when Junior et al agreed to meet with the Russian lawyer to ‘get the dirt’ on Clinton.

That’s collusion 101....connivance, complicity, plotting, secrecy.....

Why wouldn't the next Democratic candidate openly work with a foreign intelligence agency who dislikes Trump to get information?

One thing that puzzles me about this thread is that as actual information unfolds from this investigation, it looks as if it is people on the left that seem to have the most to fear here. I'm kind of surprised because nobody in any high position should be able to come out of an investigation like this squeaky clean. But time will tell where this takes us.

So you are separating Trump himself from members of his campaign working on his behalf?

You mean like paying a foreign agent to work up a dossier?

We get the technically there where they hired a US company who hired this guy. There's a degree of separation. There's no email from Chelsea Clinton where she learns that a foreigner want to meet with her to get dirt on Trump and she writes back "I love it!".

Though if there were, I kind of assume that Fox News would no longer exist as there would be hundreds of spontaneous combustions.

I understand that Manafort has been nailed for things he did four years before the 2016 election. So, yeah.

Edit: Not "nailed", but the things they are calling him to the carpet on - alledged crimes - happened in that time frame. i.e. it's not about Trump.
