How do you feel about the word itself?
Good word. My taste in music is very catholic. On my telephone I have classic rock, indie country (this is Nashville, after all), opera, R&B, Gregorian Chant, symphonies (Dvorak's "From the New World" is my favorite), folk, bluegrass, New Grass (Nickel Creek, the Punch Brothers), Americana (Avett Bros, Jason Isbell), country (George Jones, Johnny Cash), Alternative (The Weeks, Ben Folds), ad infinitum. Maybe even some polka, and a fair bit of K-pop from the 60s and 70s. Plus I'm Anglo-Catholic. <Laugh>

I voted no but then I have fun with it telling people ‘I’m catholic just not Roman’. And watch their eyes glaze over ^_^
Been there, done that. Then having to explain to Roman Catholics why I don't become a "real" Catholic too.

I rarely run into those types but when I do they’re typically only equipped to refute a bible only evangelical.

Forgive me...
The word means numerous things to a number of different people. For myself it would depend on who it actually is.

I read a book about ancient Babylon and how the various forms of religions spread across the globe. It's interesting how each denomination has their own unique traditions.
None of which have anything at all to do with Babylon.

How I wish we would all simply love Jesus, put our differences aside as much as possible, and start being the universal church, instead of all the arguing I see.
Once everyone agrees with me we'll be all set. <Laugh>

In my loose imagination I beg to differ, and as one of many Christians who regularly recite the Nicene Creed, in one translation or another, I do not believe that most of us would understand it that way at all.
I understand that. But most evangelical congregations do not recite the Creed; or if they do, word that line differently to avoid sounding like they endorse either the Catholics or the Apostolics.

As far as the rest of their creed, I have no clue. I don't follow their tradition.
"Their" creed? Something in it you find disagreeable?
It appears that some Denoms have no creeds at at all, such as this movement on CF I found out about.
Sounds as if the may be Sola Scriptura? [which I am]

No Creed But Christ - Restoration Movement
No Creed But Christ - Restoration Movement Statement of Faith

A few things to know about Christians of the Restoration Movement (Stone-Campbell Movement):
  • "No Creed but Christ." No Restoration Movement congregation will not require a believer to read, memorize, sign, recite, affirm, pledge, or in any way have anything to do with a written creed as a litmus test for fellowship, baptism or communion
  • "Where the Scriptures speak, we speak; where the Scriptures are silent, we are silent." Our beliefs are based on scripture only.
  • "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love." No Christians are rejected from fellowship based on differing beliefs on "non-essential" doctrines.
  • "We are not the only Christians, but we are Christians only." Restoration Movement believers do not claim to be the only Christians, and we accept other believers who profess to believe in Jesus Christ as our brothers and sisters. However, we do not attach any other name to ourselves other than "Christian." There is a very small percentage of RM believers who believe that only RM believers are true Christians, but this is not a popular view.

Forgive me...
There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. I am a part of this catholic church in Christ Jesus.

And yes I do realize the word catholic many believe have a universal meaning, but I don't use it that way. I just use it as the word that refers to those who practice catholicism.
The word catholic is one of the four notes of the Church. I am not sure why you would use the word differently to what has been expressed in the Church since the 2nd century and in the creeds of the Church since the 4th century. It leaves me asking, do words have meaning, or are they simply vehicles for whatever meaning I choose to load them with at the time? Personally I would urge you to reclaim this word which is an important part of our heritage.

So many people saying it just means universal. But how often is it used in that context? Never inmy experience (except by Catholics trying to justify the use of the word). I and probably most people on here have been brought up with the word Catholic meaning members of the Roman Catholic church. It is the most common modern use of the word, like it or not.

my issue with catholicism, is not the religion itself, but rather the practitioners who pray to the saints, and worship Mary as if she's God --- in my pure subjective opinion, there is too much idol worship in the catholic faith.
Ah ha!

Almost never found this post again.

I'd like to stop here on this subject and idle for a minute. May I ask if you have considered when praying to saints began?

First let me assure you that nobody thinks Mary is a God. So, no real problem.

However, prayers to these saints as living before the throne of God has always been there. It is universal through all ancient Christian Churches.

Forgive me...

Forgive me, but Apostolic means of Apostolic origin, such as Catholics and Orthodox Christians, Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, and others. Oneness Pentecostals do NOT have apostolic origin. As a matter of fact, the Oneness Pentecostal movement began in 1913. IF that is true, then it cannot have Apostolic origins, can it?
I do not know if they claim apostolic origin, but they do call themselves "Apostolics."

What is the Apostolic Church, and what do Apostolics believe?
