:help: I need a gigantic chart ---- one larger that I've ever seen! It's crazy checking another person's research when so many people have the same given and surnames!

A million Benjamins and Daniels and Sarahs and Hannahs! :help:

And the wives kept dying so the men remarried. The children are listed as his, but which wife is the mother if there's no wedding date? One town says rats ate the records, other towns had their courthouses burned when there was a war.

Does CF not even study the bible.
1 Timothy chapter 1 verse 4
or to devote themselves to myths and endless genealogies. Such things promote controversial speculations rather than advancing God's work--which is by faith.

CF is composed of a lot of people. I don't do endless genealogies. I chose where to end them. Have you ever studied history? Or did you attend an elementary school and high school that only taught the Bible? Do you think people should never do anything that isn't Bible study or helping others. What do handicapped people do each day? Do they ever turn on the news or use the internet?

I don't think CF is an acceptable site for you. People can play games and tell clean jokes and talk about the weather and gardening. God forbid that anyone should have a hobby or some down time.

The only reason for this life that I can see is knowing God, I spend my time studying the bible and playing hymns, I do get exercise to, but other than that why do it.

Here's some benefits to studying the bible.

Matthew chapter 4 verse 4
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
Romans chapter 1 verse 28
Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.

John chapter 8 verse 31,32
To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, " If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.
2 John
9 Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
Job chapter 23 verse 12
I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

Matthew 11
28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Luke chapter 21
33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
Romans chapter 10
17 Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
Mark chapter 13
31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
James chapter 1
25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
James chapter 4
8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Isaiah chapter 45 verse 19
I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob's descendants, 'Seek me in vain.' I, the LORD, speak the truth; I declare what is right.
Jeremiah chapter 9
24 but let the one who boasts boast about this:
that they have the understanding to know me,
that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth,
for in these I delight,”
declares the Lord.
Jeremiah chapter 5 verse 1
5 “Go up and down the streets of Jerusalem,
look around and consider,
search through her squares.
If you can find but one person
who deals honestly and seeks the truth,
I will forgive this city.
Psalm 119 verse 114
You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word.

Thanks. I study my Bible a lot and God is your judge and mine.

Luke 18
9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Luke chapter 13 verse 24
"Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.

Proverbs chapter 10 verse 12
Love covers all wrongs

1 Peter chapter 4 verse 8
Love covers a great many sins

I would like to do a lot of things like I used to, but what's more important.

Sometimes it helps.

I am of Afrikaner descent, and my people have a naming tradition:

The eldest son gets the Father's Father's name. The second son the Mother's Father. The Third son the father's name.

For girls it was the reverse. The eldest daughter got the Mother's Mother's name, the second daughter the Father's mother and so on.

The fourth children of each sex it got weird. Sometimes they went a generation back. Sometime they named after uncles, or just randomly.

This helped a lot with genealogy, as often I could make connections based on name between families and trace my non-direct ancestors. In my case though, we had founder effect with relatively few initial settlers. Consequently, often my ancestors converged on one another as distant cousins (or not so distant) married.
You can actually see how names jumped between families as they married, becoming a family name here or just a visitor there.

My own name is the third generation of this name hopping in my line, but oddly was given to my great-grandfather by his mother - who derived it from her previous husband from before she married my great-great-grandfather. I still wonder if that had created some kind of argument...

You have my sympathy. It is very confusing. I traced my line back to when they first set foot in South Africa, 300+ years in most cases, of repetitive naming. It is easy to mix up, but can be useful as well.
