He is impulsive, such as cutting deals with the Democrats, and especially talking before he thinks about things

He thinks that everyone sees things from his point of view, acting surprised and generally accusing others of lying if they see things differently

He has an inflated view of himself, such as "I'm the richest, I'm the best, I'm the dealmaker," etc. when in fact he hasn't been able to achieve his goals.

He lacks diplomacy, aka the ability to deal with people in a sensitive and effective way. This would be evidenced by, i.e., the number of staff members he has gone through, and his inability to work with congress.


The thing is, you will find these traits listed under a number of different personality disorders. Most psychologists won't come out and diagnose him, because they would want to see him in person for a full examination; however, they believe he is a cause for concern. And it is worth noting that a number of psychologists HAVE broken the status quo, coming out and saying point blank that he has Narcissistic Personality Disorder, that it is such a classic case that no in person assessment is needed.

It's not like cluster B personality disorders aren't common among politicians. We have narcissists and functional psychopaths galore. Hilary doesn't smell like a bed of roses.

But there is a lot to be said for the degree of dysfunction.

Oh, I agree that politicians in general score higher than the average person in narcissism and psychopathy. But this is a matter of degree. Trump is burying our country in dysfunction. He is unable to pass legislation, and is creating trouble with our allies. The art of the deal? He only knows how to bully when he has more power. When others have power, he needs to negotiate, and he has no clue how.

I'm sorry for anyone's property being destroyed. But I feel a lot less sympathy for someone who has a gazillion dollars to replace it. It's not like Trump was hurt.

• attention seeking behavior that is over the top

• expects to be recognized as superior without the achievements to back it up
• lack of empathy
• can't handle criticism
• I could easily make this list twice as long
