  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would you rather the President focus on deporting the young 20 something who is a productive member of the community or the drug dealers and murderers?

I want the President to do his job (like he is doing), and ICE and
other law enforcement agencies to deport all illegals.

I don't believe the children could be forcibly deported, since they are US citizens. They could either live with US relatives or go into foster care.

Why would children stay when their families are deported?
They can leave with the families, citizen or not.

DACA recipients cannot apply to become the U.S. citizens and can't become residents despite what many people think. They get work permits.
Congress will likely change that in December.

That could be a lot of children going into foster care.

Seems easier (and cheaper for the country) to let those currently employed, and being productive members of society, stay (in their work visa-type status).

Except then, we would have to individually do background
checks and vet the employers and neighbors to see if they
are really working and not dealing drugs or being gangsters
or whatever.

Cheaper to deport by the load, then let them apply to come
back if their record is clear.

You assume that the destination countries will admit those children. Remember, they are citizens of the US. YOU WILL BE PLACING THOSE COUNTRIES IN THE SAME POSITION YOU ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT, ie, permitting 'aliens' to reside in your country...

Our government doesn't have the money or resources available to forcibly move that many people out at once. What it would cost to do that would probably be more than any money we would save by not having these people here.

I thought that was the case already. Aren't DACA people continuously 'vetted' and monitored...?

Something I do not understand:

DACA members are working, teaching, serving as soldiers. That is what I am seeing and hearing.

I have a question -

Clearly there are quite a few who are adults - why aren't they citizens, having been here 20+ years

I believe they can leave if they want or their parents want to take them, but US citizens cannot be forced to leave. This is their home country.

And nor can foreign countries be forced to take US citizens. It's all very well to say "they can leave if they want", but that operates on a very large assumption.

I'm thinking of two factors in particular:

Many of these destination countries have substandard economies that would not cope with a significant influx of immigrants.

The 'kind' words spoken by many conservative mouths in the US ( including, of course, those made by the president) may result in an unwillingness to help solve America's non-problems...

Blame the parents.

Which should the 'sins of the fathers' be 'visited upon the sons'...?

And given that the 'sons' are citizens of the US, they are surely entitled to the same care and protection as any other natural born American...?

You apparently live in a world with infinite government resource and no agency has to prioritize.

It costs six times what it would to deport them to keep them:

Deporting the country’s estimated 11 million illegal immigrants would cost nearly $125 billion, but allowing them to remain in the U.S. could cost taxpayers far more, according to a new report being released Thursday by a think tank that wants to see stricter immigration limits.

Steven A. Camarota, research director at the Center for Immigration Studies, crunched the numbers and found that the current population of illegal immigrants will drain nearly $750 billion from taxpayers over their lifetimes — amounting to six times the deportation costs. (Illegal immigrants cost taxpayers nearly $750 billion over lifetime: Report. Washington Times)
