  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If these people are citizens of the United States, why are you pointing out we need to spend tax money to pay for them as children and adults? They'd be paying taxes too. People who are born here and get citizenship don't get magical status where they are both citizens and free to not pay taxes.
Maybe the assumption is that those children won't be paying taxes because they won't be able to hold down a job?

Racist sheriff who defies the constitutional rights of American citizens and ignores lawful orders from a federal judge? Pardoned!

Children of illegal immigrants wanting a better future and college education to better contribute to our society? Crush their dreams!

I'll say it again... People supporting this President's actions aren't convincing me they aren't actually racists deep down inside.

But when there are not alot of jobs to go around as it is, it means the illegals have a chance at said jobs over americans who are here legally.

No, it means the dreamers who have the talent, education and drive will get the job.

Wait a second - the Dreamers were NOT born in this country; they were brought here when they were children. Any brothers and sisters they might have who were born here can not be deported as they are naturally born citizens.

The Dreamers grew up here and were educated here. They may not even speak their parents' native language. If they get deported, they will be as foreigners. Since we've already educated them, it would be a waste of resources to throw them out now when they've already integrated into our society.

The poll has no option for me to choose - I would take the third but it is wrong because while this is horrible, all these people DON'T want to stay in - or be deported to - the country they were born, they want to stay HERE.

From strictly an economic perspective, it makes no sense to kick out people whom we have already educated and are motivated to improve their lives and our country.

No one wants the jobs illegals have because no one has been forced to work them because we keep giving them to illegals. Get rid of illegals and people will eventually start taking those jobs because they are better than no job.

Though sort of ironically its funny when the talk of jobs come up since no one ever seems to care about the fact we are happy having most of are stuff made overseas by people that get paid even less. If those jobs were here, there would be many more jobs for us to have.

My spouse worked in the hotel industry for 20 years here in Arizona. On rare occasions a non-immigrant American would take a job cleaning rooms: In every case, the person quit or was fired (for shotty work) within a few weeks. Whereas immigrants from Mexico, Central American and Eastern Europe were hard, motivated workers. Many worked two full time jobs to support their families.

IMO, Americans think they are above certain types of work.

We don't have the manpower or money to kick out all 11 million illegal immigrants. Therefore, it makes sense to prioritize who we kick out.

Obama's priorities were...

Priority 1:
Threats to national security, border security, and public safety
o Persons engaged in or suspected of terrorism or espionage, or who otherwise pose threat to national security
o Convicted gang members
o Persons apprehended at the border attempting to unlawfully enter the country
o Persons convicted of a felony (other than offenses related to person’s immigration status) or aggravated felonies

Priority 2:
Misdemeanors and immigration violators
o Persons convicted of three or more misdemeanors (other than minor traffic offenses or offenses related to person’s immigration status)
o Persons convicted of a significant misdemeanor (domestic violence, sexual abuse/exploitation, burglary, unlawful possession or use of a gun, drug distribution or trafficking, DUI)
o Persons who entered or reentered unlawfully after January 1, 2014
o Persons who have significantly abused visa programs

Priority 3:
Other immigration violators
o Persons with a final order of removal issued on or after January 1, 2014

Trump wants to spend some effort kicking out high school students, when he could be kicking out bad hombres -- that seems pretty dumb to me.

Ok, thanks. But my question still sorta applies. I'm reading that those 'dreamer' kids are now as old as 30+. Surely many of them have had children of their own since arriving in the US. What becomes of those kids if their parents are deported? How do you deport children to a country in which they have no citizenship?

The process as it is now is that because the kids are citizens, they go back only because the gov't doesn't want to break up families... IIRC, the kids are free to return as soon as they turn 18, but the parents are out.

....which has increased the immigration court backlog:

Immigration court cases waiting to be heard hit an all-time high of 607,755 in June – 10,031 of them in Arizona – despite the hiring of more judges and a Trump administration directive to expedite cases.

.....

While the backlog nearly tripled under President Barack Obama – dubbed “deporter-in-chief” by some advocates – Reyes said there has been a significant increase under the Trump administration which is reopening low-priority cases that were closed under previous administrations.

Under Obama, low-risk, low-priority cases involving non-criminal immigrants who had roots in the U.S. were often set aside – or administratively closed – so prosecutors could focus on more high-risk cases involving criminal immigrants.

Despite more judges, immigration courts backlog grows to record high

Those parents who came here illegally PUT their children in the position they're in now. That is NOT Trump's fault.
Comprehensive immigration reform is needed. All this repeal will do is force congress to act.
Obama should NEVER have signed this stupid sweeping executive order. The job should have been left to congress. That said, DACA was ALWAYS supposed to be temporary.
If everybody who is now whining about Trump's action wants a permanent solution, then contact your representative and tell them to pass immigration legislation.
Marching on a sidewalk holding silly signs does nothing.

Hmmph. THey could be made legal with the stroke of a pen. They could be "pardoned".

It's not about the legality. Its about the false perception of taking away american jobs. What about taking away human consumers from the local economy? Every worry about that? A person deported cannot purchase things or get haircuts or rent a house . . .

First, gotta love the title! An amazing possibility of a possible maybe, could be.

But if he does repeal the executive order, I understand it would have a six month waiting period so that Congress (they guys who are supposed to make the laws), will have ample opportunity to create and pass a law regarding them.

The President in executive actions represents the President and the Congress represents the people.

That's my reasoning

Get these people leaching off the system out of here. Thank God for President Trump keeping his promises.

"'When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the LORD your God.'"Lev 23:22

I keep looking but I can't find "When you reap the harvest of your land, take everything and get these people leeching off the system out of here". Am I just reading it wrong?

Can you show evidence that "these people" are "leaching off the system", or does it just make a convenient talking point...?

Sorry to persist, but I really don't understand. Your government will act to send its own citizens to a foreign nation against their will (the dreamers' kids)..? What happens if that other nation refuses to accept these 'immigrant' children...?

Considering that overwhelmingly beneficiaries of DACA have jobs and/or used DACA to get better jobs then they aren't leaching off the system but rather contributing to it with their taxes.

So essentially you are propagating a lie.

I read a piece last week, in the Atlantic, I think, which reported that Trump wants to allow the Dreamers to stay, but is getting push back from his base.

Personally, I am sympathetic, but I don't think that Presidential executive order was the way to go. If it is brought to court, I don't think that it would stand up to scrutiny. I would suggest that the Congress makes a deal to fund the wall in return for the Dreamers staying.

They are not our citizens. They came here when young.

And you are not reading...

I referred specifically to the dreamers' kids...the children who have been born to those who arrived in the US earlier..

Is it the intention of Trump and his minions to deport US citizens...?
