  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Scripture is clear that Christians ought to strive to live righteously. Scripture then defines what righteous living means. The poll question does not say must, it says should. We ought to strive to live righteously as described in the Scriptures.
You do t strive to live righteously by looking to the written code/ law you die to that

You must have self-control and try to live righteously. Righteous living is described in the Scriptures and are included in the two greatest commandments and the Ten Commandments.

Hi Friend,

I do not think anyone is proposing that anyone is saved by keeping God's commandments. Simply if you love Jesus he will change your heart to follow him. This is the New Covenant (Eze 36:26-27; Heb 8:10-12). This includes the 7th Day Sabbath which is one of the 10.

In Christ!
If salvation is maintained by keeping the law, it's salvation by works of the law. If the law can't grant it, the law can't take it.

Hello Friend,
Try reading the scriptures that I posted with your comment then you will not have said what you posted above (Eze 36:26-27; Heb 8:10-12). No one is saying what your saying. Only you are saying that. So if no one is saying what you are saying then what is your argument? :D

The point is, under the NC the law God desires you obey is in your most inward parts. It is part of your DNA so to speak. The holy spirit put it there.
So to endless repeat
You must obey the TC
Is akin to repeatedly telling someone who has learnt their twelve times tables:

You must learn your twelve times tables
You must learn your twelve times tables
Etc etc

That is why I am not saying "must" but "should." We should work on becoming more righteous in God's sight. We reciprocate God's love by obeying His commandments.

But your post shows you believe obedience is by looking g to the law and striving to obey it. It isn't!!!

Or it's akin to telling someone who loves their wife:

You must love your wife
You must live your wife
Etc, etc

Yes, we need to be careful of crossing the line of what one must do through works to obtain salvation which is only by the grace of God.

Can a person be In a saved state unless they obey the TC?

Friend,

I answered your question with a question because I thought the answer was obvious.o_O

Is a person in a saved state when they are willfully and knowingly breaking any of God's 10 commandments?

If you can answer this question you have your answer. If you cannot answer it then I do not answer you.

The Bible is clear we are to work on living righteously. I can pull a ton of verses on that from the NC. There is a level of self-control we need here working with the Holy Spirit and not against the Holy Spirit.

Hi Listed
Some comments below for your consideration.

Actually it is absolutely talking about the 7th Day rest of the week of creation which is the origin of the 7th Day Sabbath commandment as well as the Sabbath commandment as referenced in verse 9 (Hebrews 4:1-4; Hebrew 4: 9) There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. (“rest” in verse 9, translates as Sabbath rest linked). Jesus is the Word. Those that did not enter into God’s Sabbath rest did not enter in because of their “Unbelief” which was not believing God which resulted in sin (breaking God’s Sabbath).

In Christ Always!
Hebrews 4 talks about rest as you even quote. It has nothing to do with the sabbath. Again Matthews 11:28-30 was spoken to people observing the sabbath. "Sabbatimos" is neither about rest or the sabbath. It's a concept word communicating an unlimited rest not provided by the 7th day sabbath.

Once again your entitled to your opinion. I do not judge you :D You have all the links to the Greek I sent you in the previous post. Believe it or do not believe it. It is up to you.

Please go back and look at the Greek meaning of the word "rest" used in Heb 4:9 its meaning is resting through keeping of a Sabbath or Sabbath observance. (I have provided Greek links below)

NAS Bible Heb 4:9 “There remaineth therefore a [Sabbath] rest 4520 to the people of God.”

The Greek word literally means “Sabbath keeping” or “Sabbath observance.” (links below)
Strong's Concordance 4520
sabbatismos:
a sabbath rest
Original Word: σαββατισμός, οῦ, ὁ
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: sabbatismos
Phonetic Spelling: (sab-bat-is-mos')
Short Definition: a Sabbath rest
Definition: a keeping of the Sabbath, a Sabbath rest.

Strong's Greek 4520

σαββατισμὸς — 1 Occ.
Hebrews 4:9N-NMS
GRK: ἄρα ἀπολείπεται σαββατισμὸς τῷ λαῷ
NAS: there remains a Sabbath rest for the people
KJV: therefore a rest to the people
INT: Then remains a sabbath rest to the people

Thayer's Greek Lexicon
STRONGS NT 4520: σαββατισμός

σαββατισμός, σαββατισμου, ὁ (σαββατίζω to keep the sabbath); 1. a keeping sabbath. 2. the blessed rest from toils and troubles looked for in the age to come by the true worshippers of God and true Christians (R. V. sabbath rest): Hebrews 4:9. (Plutarch, de superstit. c. 3; ecclesiastical writings.)
