Hi everyone. This is my first post, hopefully I'm in the right place. I'm a new believer... I'm struggling with accepting he fact that He has forgiven my sins. I have done so many awful things, I feel so much guilt and shame. I've heard that once you are saved the feelings of shame will go away. But I still feel the same. If people I've hurt can't forgive me, and I can't forgive myself, how can I really accept that God has forgiven me?
How many times can you commit the same sin before God won't forgive you?
I'm terrified that I will go to Hell. I'd appreciate any advice and prayers as I start my journey.

Wish this was true but its not, the devil lost a soul when you came to Christ, so he is gonna work overtime to remind you of everything you did wrong. Bible states he is an accuser of the brethern. Next time he reminds you of your past, remind him of HIS FUTURE.

Your not going to hell, if you've repented and given your life to Christ you are fine, keep seeking Him and you will find Him. Just dont give no thought or concern to the devils lies. He only wants to keep you sad and "thinking" you are doomed. He is a liar, dont forget that, there is NO TRUTH in him. Be of great joy and cheer, Jesus already knew what you was gonna do even before you did it, and He went to the cross anyway. Now thats love. Welcome to the body of Christ and welcome to CF my friend.

I completely see where you are coming from here. This is one of the hardest things to do, and although I've been in church for my whole life, I am just now beginning to accept that Jesus has fully paid the price. There is nothing that we can do through our human works to earn his forgiveness; we are undeserving, yet God has forgiven us. A little word of advice, our mind is a battlefield...our thoughts can hinder us from living fully for God, so it is very important that we meditate on scripture and not allow those thoughts of doubt to gain access.
If people won't forgive you, that is on them, but as long as you've done your part, That's all you can do. As I said above, Jesus paid the price for our sins, and he nailed our guilt and shame to the old rugged cross. We have to place our faith in God that he completed the work, ask forgiveness of our sins, and move forward. It isn't easy, I won't lie, but it must be done. The reason why we don't "feel" forgiven sometimes is because we don't deserve it-but while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Don't let Satan bring up the past in an attempt to destroy your future, you are a child of the King and you are a new creature in Christ, don't let anyone or anything tell you different. Sending prayers your way, God bless you.

Hi sister! I love this first post of yours! You're so sincere and open, not holding back. It's refreshing :) I'd like to know how you came to have this conversion, to understand how much of an understanding of the gospel that you have already.

Christianity is a relationship with Jesus, where He explains these things to us so that we understand why He can forgive us and if our sin is upsetting Him, then He helps us to overcome those sins. Sometimes our own sense of sin is not actually from Him, but from some paranoia and over-anxiety issue, because it's too hard to be as perfect as Jesus is. If we were to start off holding ourselves to such a perfect standard, we'd give up real quick, and this is why when we have a conversion experience, there's usually just one major gateway sin that we have to give up, and everything else after that just happens gradually and naturally because our covenant to repentance has put Him in the driver's seat of our life and He begins to change our heart so that we become more like Him!:clap::clap:

So the real key to your peace is to just know that God is good, and the fact that you've acknowledged that you are willing to be responsible for your sin and to live in a repentant way so that you are never going to do what you know is wrong, that is all He needs from you. That means that even if you make mistakes, you never do them on purpose, and you can always be blameless and innocent if anybody should accuse you (even if you might need to admit being a bit clumsy at times ). He is glorified in us when we live that way :) Keep doing it!

Here's a gospel tract that can help you to find out more about who He is and what Christianity is about. It helps you to understand the core topics in Christianity, how you can participate and how you can get to know Him, and what our goals are!

Dear Heavenly Father, I just thank you for our sister here who has come along to fellowship with us in this place. I just pray that you'll place a special guard upon her mind as she goes about here, so she can see clearly the motives of the people who are speaking to her, and she can identify the ones who have a morsel of wisdom to gain, distinct from the ones who like to spread unsettling ideas. Lord God, I pray that with this discernment, you will show her that immediately she has qualities and knowledge that are useful to you, that her very own words can be useful to Your Holy Spirit in others, that as she speaks to them, those words will grow inside of them to heal and to teach according to your good purpose for them. Lord, I ask that you'll stimulate her mind to think of lots of really interesting questions, having confidence to pursue those questions without hesitation or fear, so that she will end up having such a refined, solid understanding of the truth that cannot be shaken and that she will stimulate others to think more through that process than they would have! Finally, Heavenly Father, I pray for your blessings of peace and love to pour through her not only in this place, but also in her life outside of this website, so every person around her can be built-up by it and reflect that holy spirit to her; and that her wisdom, grace and love would find a place to grow in their hearts too, as they carry your spirit forth into the world. Let your spirit multiply through every person with every word it speaks and just take over her world :groupray:. We pray this to the glory of God in Jesus' name, amen.

Welcome sister! I hope you enjoy your time here

First of all, welcome to the body of Christ.

I've heard that once you are saved the feelings of shame will go away.

Being saved makes us much more cognizant of our sin. The good thing is it allows us to more easily detect and avoid our sin. The bad thing (actually still a good thing) is it makes us much more remorseful for the things we've done. Continue to pray to God that he will easy your turmoil and allow you to forgive yourself as He has forgiven you.

How many times can you commit the same sin before God won't forgive you?

You can't exceed the forgiveness of God. His grace knows no bounds. :ebil:

Have you confessed your sins to the Lord and asked for forgiveness? Then you are forgiven no matter what you feel. We all have done a lot of things in life that we regret of later. But I believe that it is after we are saved that we feel ashamed about our past sins because before that we don't realize that we are sinning. We think we are right in what we do and we don't care. Even if others don't forgive you, you should forgive others. Then you don't have to worry about hell. Just make sure you walk righteously before God. Read the Bible, pray and learn from His Word what He requires of you. Follow Him. Then you will have nothing to worry about.

Hi brother, the Bible does not say God won't forgive you after certain number of sins. God grace is always with us till eternity. As long as we are living on this earth, we will sin. But our focus shouldn't be on "not to commit sin" as this is impossible. Instead we should focus our attention on God. We focus on loving and pleasing Him. You will realise how much your life change when you look back once you start to focus your attention on God. I've prayed for you. God bless you.
Between, please feel free to visit me here, i'm sharing post on Christianity and living a better life.

How many times can you commit the same sin before God won't forgive you? What does Jesus say? How many times will you forgive those who sin against you before you won't forgive them? The measure you use will be used for you (or against you).

Hold to the teachings of Jesus first and foremost. That is heart work. Working at the root, the inside of the cup, the seed, you can have the light for all of these issues.

Forgive those who are indebted to you through your past and in your life. Forgive those out in the world you hold something against. Open your heart to looking at people you judge in your heart with mercy. Look at those who you have been judging, and consider how Jesus really must think of them. Who is their Maker?

If you hold to the words of Jesus, which He also lived, you will find how Jesus really sees them, sinners "out there", and you. With mercy, love, and forgiveness.

As you walk in that and start to see sinners as they really are, as Jesus of the gospels saw them... you will start to see your own self and your own sins as they really are. With mercy, love, and forgiveness.

Do not mistake those who are not like Christ as those who adhere to His words. But take heart of the person of Christ as described in the Gospels, and hold to his teachings every day in your heart.

That will guide you in exactly these things, to dispel the unnecessary guilt and shame, and to fill your heart with the joy of forgiveness.

(Genesis 1:28) don't allow the pain of life's lessons to make you seek death, for all sin is death and it is sweet (Genesis 4:7). But life is rewarding, and knowing God means seeking life (Mark 12:27), and working with him to be successful like he wants you to be.

(Psalms 8:4) (Psalms 121:3) (Psalms 103:13-14) (Matthew 10:30-31) (Matthew 6:31-33)

Abide in charity (1 Corinthians 13).

Yes, he has forgiven your sins. And?

If your sins were something worthwhile, maybe they would hold some problem...

What do you think you did which was so bad?

Peter asked Jesus, how many times should I forgive someone...7? Jesus says, not 7, but seventy times 7. that means 490...if you get to 489 with the same person, you better separate! If you aren't forgiven, there would be no reason to continue living towards the ultimate goal! Have you ever forgiven someone that wronged you?

It's a long time since I was a new Christian, but to some extent I had a similar battle.

You are talking about a number of different things here - feelings of guilt and shame, forgiveness - God's forgiveness, others' forgiveness, and forgiving yourself. The last is sometimes the hardest.

God will keep forgiving you, but you need to confess your sins on a regular basis. And if my experience is anything to go by, it will be the same old sins occurring again and again. I'm hardly a gambler, so I don't even need to struggle with that issue, but there other issues I struggle with repeatedly.

Forgiving yourself may be harder, but time heals wounds, even self inflicted ones. You might just have to be patient. There are things I wish I could undo from the past, but in common with everybody else, I can't change the past. It's fixed. So all you can do for the time being is to keep on keeping on.

The forgiveness of others may or may not come, but you first of all need to ensure that you stay grounded in your faith. You may have treated them badly, but the fact is that they're under the same divine injunction to forgive you as you are to forgive those who might have offended you.

As a new Christian just starting out in the faith, the most important thing you can do is to get involved, and STICK WITH, a faith community. I'm Catholic now, and whilst I believe the Catholic Church is closest to the truth, you need to join and stick with a faith community. The devil picks off non-church Christians with the greatest of ease.

You need the support of other believers, and as you grow in faith and wisdom, you in turn will be able to help others, thus making up to some extent the damage you may have done to people with whom you can no longer communicate.

So your main priority right now should be consistent participation in a faith community. As you grow in your faith, these problems that vex you so much now will begin to fade.

Hi HC. Phillipians 3.13-14
King James Bible
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

It is natural to have feelings of regret for past sin, even if we know God has forgiven us as we still sometimes have to deal with the results of that sin. But shame comes from the Devil, who wants to remind us of our past sin in order to affect our future. By focusing on what Christ has done for me, I'm able to live more successfully moving forward instead of dwelling on the past. We all struggle with different feelings at times, doubt, shame, etc. But our feelings change, God's word doesn't. Try to focus on the truth of God's word and not the past or present failures of ours.
