Hi everyone. This is my first post, hopefully I'm in the right place. I'm a new believer... I'm struggling with accepting he fact that He has forgiven my sins. I have done so many awful things, I feel so much guilt and shame. I've heard that once you are saved the feelings of shame will go away. But I still feel the same. If people I've hurt can't forgive me, and I can't forgive myself, how can I really accept that God has forgiven me?
How many times can you commit the same sin before God won't forgive you?
I'm terrified that I will go to Hell. I'd appreciate any advice and prayers as I start my journey.
Hi sister! I love this first post of yours! You're so sincere and open, not holding back. It's refreshing
I'd like to know how you came to have this conversion, to understand how much of an understanding of the gospel that you have already.
Christianity is a relationship with Jesus, where He explains these things to us so that we understand why He can forgive us and if our sin is upsetting Him, then He helps us to overcome those sins. Sometimes our own sense of sin is not actually from Him, but from some paranoia and over-anxiety issue, because it's too hard to be as perfect as Jesus is. If we were to start off holding ourselves to such a perfect standard, we'd give up real quick, and this is why when we have a conversion experience, there's usually just one major gateway sin that we have to give up, and everything else after that just happens gradually and naturally because our covenant to repentance has put Him in the driver's seat of our life and He begins to change our heart so that we become more like Him!
So the real key to your peace is to just know that God is good, and the fact that you've acknowledged that you are willing to be responsible for your sin and to live in a repentant way so that you are never going to do what you know is wrong, that is all He needs from you. That means that even if you make mistakes, you never do them on purpose, and you can always be blameless and innocent if anybody should accuse you (even if you might need to admit being a bit clumsy at times
). He is glorified in us when we live that way
Keep doing it!
Here's a gospel tract that can help you to find out more about who He is and what Christianity is about. It helps you to understand the core topics in Christianity, how you can participate and how you can get to know Him, and what our goals are!
Dear Heavenly Father, I just thank you for our sister here who has come along to fellowship with us in this place. I just pray that you'll place a special guard upon her mind as she goes about here, so she can see clearly the motives of the people who are speaking to her, and she can identify the ones who have a morsel of wisdom to gain, distinct from the ones who like to spread unsettling ideas. Lord God, I pray that with this discernment, you will show her that immediately she has qualities and knowledge that are useful to you, that her very own words can be useful to Your Holy Spirit in others, that as she speaks to them, those words will grow inside of them to heal and to teach according to your good purpose for them. Lord, I ask that you'll stimulate her mind to think of lots of really interesting questions, having confidence to pursue those questions without hesitation or fear, so that she will end up having such a refined, solid understanding of the truth that cannot be shaken and that she will stimulate others to think more through that process than they would have! Finally, Heavenly Father, I pray for your blessings of peace and love to pour through her not only in this place, but also in her life outside of this website, so every person around her can be built-up by it and reflect that holy spirit to her; and that her wisdom, grace and love would find a place to grow in their hearts too, as they carry your spirit forth into the world. Let your spirit multiply through every person with every word it speaks and just take over her world
. We pray this to the glory of God in Jesus' name, amen.
Welcome sister! I hope you enjoy your time here
