I dont get why Mary is prayed to. Dont get me wrong, im not here to bash Catholics, or to debate prayers. I just dont understand why we need Mary when we have the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, the Intercessor, the Teacher, the Lamp for our feet, and the Light of the world.

If Mary had her own book in the New Testament or Jesus made it obvious by word or deed that praying to her was an option as well as Him I'd go for it but I'm hesitant and my faith is weak. I love God and want to serve Him faithfully I have a relationship with Jesus and the Holy Spirit but I'm scared if I start praying to another name, especially Mary, I'll get sucked into that whole divine feminine feminist stuff.

Jesus taught us how to pray. He taught us to pray to God our father. There is no example of praying to anyone, in all the bible, other than God the father. Jesus prayed to God the father. He left us His word and His example.

That's what I've come to rely on. I can see the sense of the rosary mysteries I think it's helpful to have a routine devotional like that but I'd rather read those chapters daily and not say the prayers other than ones directed to God.

Sounds wise to me.

Could we not use this argument with any good thing?
"Why do you need ______ when you have the Holy Spirit?"

God is all we need
But in His generosity He has given us so much
The argument is valid and i think the question needs asked. The problem we have is that in Catholicism, Mary is taking a place where God alone has already supplied our needs via the Holy Spirit, who is inside Gods children. Its like saying the Holy Spirits intercession for us in prayer is not good enough, so we need Mary to intercede as well. God never commanded this prayer and it contradicts the Word.

If God is sufficient and specifically outlined one way to glorify Him through prayer it just seems odd for Him to later suggest an alternative delivered in a vague way. But I am nothing to ask or question God for His reasoning or timing I can only go by what has been freely revealed to me by Him or my heart condemns me.

I don't have to talk to my brother, but we are family and we share things. So I don't get why there is a problem. It is not about to have to do anything, but we are family and we share things. Mary, Mother of the Lord, is a significant person in our family.

That thread did get a little excited, I guess.

There are people better qualified than I am to talk about this. I'm not sure about the accepted EO position, but RC teaching is that worship, latria in Latin, is due to God alone.

"Prayer" to the saints is better thought of as asking them to pray for you as you would ask a friend to do.

I quite like the practice.

We pray to none but GOD.
We call mary blessed. John got rebuked twice for even kneelng to an angel
WORSHIP GOD ONLY he was told.
A now a word long ago said by OUR LORD
and ye teach for precepts doctrines of men.

You make it sound so innocent, however Mary is not the Holy Spirit, Nor was she sent to intercede for us. Our prayers should always be directed to the Lord our God. Is that not enough? God is supposed to be glorified in all things.

Its not just that however. Its the queen of heaven thing too. If there is such a thing as Heavens queen, then its the Church who is queen, not Mary. Mary again is taken from her rightful place and is replacing the Church as queen. God gets glory for everything. His Church is also His body. Eve was taken from Adam, not adam taken from Eve. So it is with the Church. The great mystery of the Church Paul spoke of. They shall be one flesh. Who? Mary and Christ? No! the Church and Christ.
