  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In general :

Cats are : Clean, make you earn their respect, independent (most not all), funny, cute and cuddly (if they like you)
Dogs are: Dirty, loud, smelly, slobbery, ANNOYINGLY dependent, try to kill you if you leave the house for 10 mins and come back in the house by charging at you and jumping up on you.... (unless you own a purse dog, then its not really a threat, nor is it really a dog.)

I love both animals, but in general a cat being a mild jerk can be trained out of it for the most part...... a dog will always slobber, smell and be all up on you no matter what time it is. For me a dog is AWESOME, but only if I am in a playful dog mood.Otherwise, I mostly just hear myself saying..... "shut up" "stop slobbering on that" "get down from that" "come back here" "stupid dog"..... etc.

Train a cat to be less of a jerk? Lol. I don't know about that.. Cats are just more feral and wild, less apt for training.

Considering I did it with my cat. Yes, absolutely. I was 8 years old and grew up with it (so it doesnt take a cat whisperer, just someone that cares and doesn't neglect it, in rewards or discipline), I made it quite clear I wasn't going to put up with her being a jerk and she learned and became a VERY sweet and lovable cat that even people that HATED cats grew to love and made them cat people... so yes... cats can be trained

Oddly enough it makes me wonder if there is a formula for a good hug. Or is the good hug a mystery and some people just have it while others don't.
The more love from the heart the better the hug. For sure.
Some people definitely give the best hugs. I'm not sure if there is a formula... but I think Cody is right. The ingredient making the hug the best is love. :)

Well, same as any training. Rewarded the good behaviors, disciplined the bad behaviors I wouldnt stand for such as her being a jerk, trying to bite and claw for no reason.

After getting her when I was 7 or 8 years old, after some time together there came a point she didn't need discipline cause she knew what behaviors were unacceptable. She lived up until I was about 29 and she was a year or two when I got her, so she lived a good 20+ years in my care and she was loved by anyone that spent any form of time with her, even those that didn't like cats. 8 years later I still miss her at times.... but I've always been a cat person.... so not having a cat around brings the sads.

Yep, cats are trainable too. I've had mine since she was a kitten and she is 7 years old. Cats have a different mindset, of course, and much more independent than a lot of dogs, is all.

I'm afraid of getting a cat and him growing up into a total jerk lol.

Those cats are super cute though. And I love cattitudes.

All four of our cats have distinctly charming characters, and I wouldn't describe them as jerks. They're a bit entitled at times, though. Earlier this year we channeled their cattitude for a dance performance, haha.

There is a song I have listened to more often as of late whose main lyrics I can certainly empathize with these days, "Stand My Ground" by Within Temptation, a group I do not follow religiously but appreciate how they are kind of all dark and brooding and gothic in their music, without being obscenely so.

But a knight does well to keep these words in mind:
"Stand my ground, I won't give in.
I won't give up.
I've got to face it.
Won't close my eyes and hide the truth inside."

Until now, all the times I heard this song in the past I thought that last line was actually saying "I close my eyes and find the truth inside." Which still fits in its own way. With the Holy Spirit inside thanks to God's grace, I look to my heart where He dwells to find the truth in every little situation in life. I admit I do not always follow it; I am guilty of not even bothering to check my heart first before acting sometimes. But even as this knight falls, God helps him to stand his ground and, at least ultimately, never give up. :)
