How come good Friday is only two days away from Easter Sunday?
The phrase "three days" to a Hebrew can mean any part of 3 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), or three days and nights, or it can mean the "day after tomorrow." If it is said on a Friday, the day after tomorrow is Sunday. How come good Friday is only two days away from Easter Sunday?
Many thanks Anastasia, I understand now. I'm very new to Christianity, Thankyou.Hello, and welcome to CF!
Christ rose on the third day - not after three days.
He was buried quickly on Friday because the Sabbath was beginning. The Sabbath (Saturday) was a rest day, and He lay in the tomb. Early in the morning on the third day (the day after the Sabbath - Sunday), the women going to the tomb to care for His body found He had been resurrected. So He Rose between the ending of the Sabbath and early morning on Sunday.
Hi Ken, what Thursday crucifixion is there another date? The phrase "three days" to a Hebrew can mean any part of 3 days (Friday, Saturday, Sunday), or three days and nights, or it can mean the "day after tomorrow." If it is said on a Friday, the day after tomorrow is Sunday.
I personally hold to a Thursday crucifixion but this is how they arrived at a Friday timing.
Rather than getting into all that... just know that some arrive at different conclusions. Some see Friday as the day, I see Thursday, I know some who think Wednesday. All of us are "counting to 3" as we understand it and quite frankly, at this point in your walk... it is probably better to just leave it at Friday and concentrate on how He desires you to walk out your daily life. Come back to these kinds of details later.Hi Ken, what Thursday crucifixion is there another date?
Why do some people believe different days of the week? Ive never heard of that,it's always been good Friday and Easter Sunday as far as I can remember. But I must admit it has that squeezed into a weekend type of feeling about it to me. I wish we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus with the same vigour that the world claims to celebrate Christmas with. I don't know one decent Easter hymn.Rather than getting into all that... just know that some arrive at different conclusions. I really shouldn't have said anything and regret it now. I am hesitant not because of you, but there are some who just look for reasons to argue. But... we're here... the bottom line is that there are different ways to count. If 3 days means "any part of 3 days" then Friday can work. If "three days and nights" means we must also include counting parts of the nights (which is how I take it) then you simply can't get to Sunday morning at sunrise from Friday afternoon because you can only get two nights that way. But again... this isn't that huge of a deal and there are so many more important tings to get into. Why do some people believe different days of the week? Thanks ken, I appreciate you taking the time to explain the differences to me. As I said I'm fairly new to Christianity and I just want to make sure I'm crossing the T's and dotting the I's right from the start. I'm worried about the end of the world too and if it is close I want to make sure when Jesus does return I'm batting for the right side.I really shouldn't have said anything and regret it now. If he is who is on your mind and heart, you're fine. Nobody has perfect doctrine and don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise. We are all growing over a lifetime... this is a marathon not a spint and we won't have all things correct (we want to, we just won't) until he returns and perfects us. Until then we strive to perfection but realize we are imperfect... for now. Thanks ken, I appreciate you taking the time to explain the differences to me. [Staff edit]. it was something the catholics changed. Jesus actually died on a wednesday, and their days started different. ours is at 12 am, theirs is at 6pm.How come good Friday is only two days away from Easter Sunday?

That sounds brilliant yeshua ( I love that name ). Do you have a Turkey? The celebrations for Easter in my country are rubbish. We do in Orthodoxy! Pascha is called The Feast Of Feasts! You should check it out! Still doing it for almost 2000 years!
I thought Catholics were the first church to be built after Jesus sacrificed himself? Can you prove they actually changed it?it was something the catholics changed. Jesus actually died on a wednesday, and their days started different. ours is at 12 am, theirs is at 6pm.
Yes I like chanting his name when I'm on my prayer mat. I don't think he should be judged for wanting to have the same name as his lord and saviour surely it's a form of flattery ?yeshua is Jesus. i hope this guy using the name doesn't reject the name Jesus though.. or apart of the hebrew movements.
