  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

You consider this an insult?

Fine, you will hear no more from me.

Fine! When I use scripture, and you mock the scripture, I hurt for my Lord.

Exodus 34:28 says the Ten Commandments IS the Covenant. You just mocked that. So we can ignore each other if you like. You didn't insult me, you insulted God's Word.

And you make the mistake of thinking that the day God called holy is unimportant.

Your answer doesn't examine the "Lord of the Sabbath" passages and what they really mean.

You accuse me of thinking the sabbath isn't important. The important thing is to understand what it means.

8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
--Exodus 20: 8 NIV

12 “Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the Lord your God has commanded you. 13 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 14 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns, so that your male and female servants may rest, as you do. 15 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.
--Deuteronomy 5: 12 NIV

Your children shall not work, servants shall not work, foreigners shall not work, animals shall not work. This is labor legislation. Those who have appointed themselves as spokesmen for the SDA won't admit this.

The true meaning of the sabbath command is that everyone gets a day off.

There's nothing in there about condemning anyone who takes the wrong day off.

Get's a day off? I'm sorry, but that was not the purpose of the Sabbath, though I've heard more than you say that, even a few of my own pastors! God help the Church and its human reasonings. It goes FAR beyond physical rest as if it was nothing more than a law on par with eating healthy.

No, it pointed to Jesus. Jesus is the whole substance of the Sabbath, and our rest is in Him. Not a physical rest, but a saving rest. We trust Him with all our hearts. We are anxious for absolutely nothing. That is the purest form of rest.

The true meaning of the sabbath command is that everyone gets a day off.

There's nothing in there about condemning anyone who takes the wrong day off.

Paul says there is one who esteems one day over another, they are still part of the church. Of course for those churches who kick out people who don't worship on them are wrong, just as those that found a new religion to worship on another day is wrong.

Jesus left out keep the sabbath, which the seveneth day, Saturday, and is the day God rested, and so commanded man to rest on this day. Because God rested on this day. So when you are resting on Saturday you are honoring God.

Today, we are lucky, we, here in the U.S., get both days off. We get Saturday and Sunday off, go God. People changed the Sabbath to Sunday and God gave us his day off too.

Now, here's, a religion who says the bible never changed the Sabbath to Sunday, and they worship on Saturday which is still God's day whether Jesus is Lord of Saturday or not. Since God is Lord, and Jesus is Lord (the Lord said to my Lord) of course Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath, He is Lord of all days, but what does this have anything to do with disrespecting God by saying, yes, I know you said Saturday, but we like Sunday better.

You are wrong for complaining that someone is worshipping on a different day than you. Seventh day advocents are wrong if they complain about you worshipping on a different day then them. The Seventh Day Advocates have biblical backup for why they choose to worhshio on Saturday. You have Constantine who wanted his fellow sun worshippers to join his church so he made it a law that the day of worship be changed from Saturday to Sunday. Whatever rhe reason they tell you now, just remember that was the original reason.

What day you worship on has absolutely no say in your salvation. Disrespecting others for what day they worship on can affect your salvation.

You are confused between th
I was raised a Seventh-day Adventist, but God brought me out of it through a teaching on grace vs. law. When that "light bulb" shown bright, I never again believed only one denomination has "the TRUTH."

That is not saying that the Seventh-day Adventist denomination is a cult. Far from it. They cannot be likened to Mormons or Jehovah Witnesses, because the SDA core beliefs are all Christian, whereas these other two are not. SDA's are Trinitarian. EG White didn't give us a different gospel, only her own interpretations of actual scripture. For that matter, John Calvin did the same thing and now we have Calvinism.

The major difference is in SDA's belief in the Ten Commandments. I would say that 9.9 out of 10 Christians would say the same. The Ten Commandments is deemed the hallmark of Christian living. However, let's look at it from another view. Ex. 34:28 says that the Ten Commandments was the COVENANT. Not part of the covenant, but THE Covenant. So are we under the Old Covenant or are we under the New Covenant?

Every covenant had a "sign" of that covenant. Noah's covenant with God was the rainbow. Abraham's covenant's sign was circumcision. The world has not been destroyed by fire, so Noah's covenant still stands. However, Abraham's covenant was fulfilled in Jesus, the Seed, thus there was an end to the command to circumcise boys. The same goes with the Ten Commandments. The Sabbath was put in the midst of the Commandments as it's sign in Exodus 31:13. Jesus is our Sabbath rest. He is the substance of the Sabbath. The Old Testament Sabbath was merely a shadow of what was to come, Col. 2.

So what about our New Covenant? And what is our New Covenant based on? It is based on the Blood of Jesus. Maybe you've read this a hundred times and didn't grasp the true value of this verse - 1 Corinthians 11, "In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood."

Do you see it? The cup is the sign of our New Covenant. So what do you do with the old sign? The same as God did with circumcision. It has been fulfilled.

Yes, Jesus said to keep His commandments as He has kept His father's commandments. But they are not the SAME commandments. So what are the commandments of Jesus? John tells us. 1 John 3:22 And whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do those things that are pleasing in His sight. 23 And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

You see, these are positive. They are do this, whereas the old said, don't do this. We have gone full circle back to the original - "Love God with your whole heart, soul and body, and love your neighbor as yourself."

Acts 2:38 says to Repent and be baptized in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 7 show us Paul's life as a Pharisee trying to keep the law in his own strength. It was a battle of mind over flesh. Righteousness does not come by keeping the law in your own strength, but by the power of God living through us. Romans 8:9 says " 9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His."

We are no longer UNDER the law, but we live ABOVE it by walking in the Spirit. Gal. 5:16 says, "16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh."

You are confused between the Law of Moses, which Moses wrote, 600+ sacrificial, circumcision, cleanliness, feasts, festivals etc laws, which are the old covenant...they sacrificed animals for forgiveness of sins, but the blood of animals was not sufficient for remission of sins, only peace of mind...
God's law the Ten commandments were written by God Himself on stone, as a sign of permanency, and is our moral code to live by to this day...Exodus 20..
Jesus blood atoned for our sins, that is the new Covenant..this does not negate God's Holy law the ten commandments..as Apostle John says in 1st John 3.4 sin is transgression of God's law and 1st John 2.4 those who say they know Him and keep not His commandments are liars and the truth i 1sts not in them. 1st John 5.3 this is the love of God that we keep His commandments, and they are not burdensome.

The eternal law that the covenant, The Ten Commandments was based on, as well as the New Covenant is to love God with all your heart, all your soul an all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself."

The commandments John was referring to he named, and they were not the Ten Commandments. Do you know what they contained?

The laws of Moses were as you said those laws containing sacrifices, dietary laws, circumcision, etc., etc., etc.

Paul referred to the ten commandments as the letter that kills, and the ministry of death and condemnation

But now, by dying to what once bound us we have been released from the law, so that we serve in the new way of the spirit, not the old way of the written code

Paul is referring to the Mosaic law, the old sacrifical system of 600 laws written by Moses for the people...NOT the ten commandments which God Himself wrote on the stone tablets Exodus 20...
Is he?

So my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him that was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God.
For when we were controlled by the sinful nature, the sinful passions aroused by the law were at work in our bodies so that we bore fruit for death.
But now, by dying to what once bound us we have been released from the law, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not the old way of the written code
Rom7:4-6

WHICH LAW is Paul referring to in the above?

In the next five verses Paul gives a personal example from his own life as to why he had to die to the law. The example he gave was:
Thou shalt not covet, which is one of the Ten Commandments

When Paul speaks of dying to the law, he means a law of righteousness.
If anyone believes they can obey the ten commandments according to the letter of those commands, they clearly do not have the same understanding of what that entails as Paul did. He said the ministry of death and condemnation were written on tablets of stone. The only law written on tablets of stone were the ten commandments

Do you think he was trying to negate the ten commandments, which is God's law...nope..read it carefully and you will see..then read Romans 3.31 do we make void the law through faith? God forbid. We establish the law..and read 1st JOHN numerous sections on keeping God's law the ten commandments...for example this is the love of God that we keep His commandments and they are not burdensome.

Do you want to believe Jesus, Paul or God? They all say the exact same thing.

Matthew 15:8
“ ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 9 They worship me in vain;
their teachings are merely human rules.

Jesus:
Matthew 19:16 Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” 17 “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” 18 “Which ones?” he inquired. Jesus replied, “ ‘You shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not give false testimony, 19 honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’”

Paul:
Galations 5:14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

Galations 5:18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, 20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, 21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

God:
Ezekial 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. 21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live. 23 Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? 24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. 25 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal? 26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die. 27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive. 28 Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 29 Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal? 30 Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord God. Repent, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin. 31 Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 32 For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord God: wherefore turn yourselves, and live ye.

Be careful how you interpet Paul's writings...Peter warns of this in 2nd Peter 3.16 Paul's writings are confusing to people who chose to use his writings to circumvent the word of God....note what Peter says about Paul's writings, and his warning about using these the wrong way to your own destruction...very wise advice.

2 Corinthians 3 tells us that indeed the Ten Commandments engraved on stones was passing away. Why are we still holding on to it for dear life? It was the first COVENANT (Exodus 34:28). We are under the NEW COVENANT - walking in the Spirit and being able to LOVE.

Why are we not rejoicing in the Holy Spirit that those who had the law were not privy to. They had no power to keep it or any of the laws of Moses. We are no longer UNDER the law; through the Spirit we are ABOVE it. Glory to God.

7 But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, 8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? 9 For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. 10 For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels. 11 For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious.

Especially since it is from lawless people. He went on.

17Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position.

As for Matthew 5 and the law, I would say that the Ten Commandments had to do with outward actions, whereas, the same commandments under Jesus' revisions make them commandments starting in the heart - a much higher standard as we are privileged to have the Holy Spirit which has heightened our conscious' sensitivity, and also given us the power of God to walk in the Spirit.

This is why we are not under the Ten Commandments, we are under Christ's commandments which are to believe on Him, and love your neighbor as yourself - all from the heart 1 John 3:23.

Paul says in Hebrews 8 and 10...God will write His commandments on our hearts and minds, and He will be our God and we will be His people....so from stone they are written on our hearts and minds....that is if you are one of God's people. If you do not have them written on your heart and minds you better check who you are following.
How do you show love of God? By keeping His commandnments...How do you show love of neighbour? By keeping God's commandments....read 1st John epistle..it explains it all...

I love John's epistle which is why I quote it so often.

So what would you say are the commandments of Jesus? Can you quote them?
