President Donald Trump quietly signed a bill into law Tuesday rolling back an Obama-era regulation that made it harder for people with mental illnesses to purchase a gun.

The rule, which was finalized in December, added people receiving Social Security checks for mental illnesses and people deemed unfit to handle their own financial affairs to the national background check database.

Soon, people in America will be able to buy guns while being deemed unfit to buy apples.

And when you can be denied your rights merely because of your age, watch out for which rights are taken away by the government next. To be sure, what you think constitutes "mental illness" would shortly be expanded to include such things as belonging to the wrong political party, posting something online that the authorities disagreed with, not keeping your lawn and house in reasonable order, and so on.

The intention of Trump's order is not so mentally handicapped people can go buy guns. It is because Obama put laws into practice that are essentially impossible to enforce in any practical manner. @Albion made a good point.

Also, there is a law in Washington state recently put into place where someone can have your guns confiscated from you if they think you are a danger.

Example: this guy at work is going through a divorce and his wife attempted to have the guns removed from his house. Cop came, he told them no, he got a lawyer, and she could not get the guns removed.

This is extremely easy to abuse and just adds more impractical laws to be enforced. It is also pretty silly to think that laws can prevent a criminal from committing a crime.

Notice also that, according to the article we were given here to read, the original push from the Democrats to have this kind of infringement on Social Security beneficiaries' rights...came in response to the Sandy Hook shooting. Refresh my memory. Was that attack carried out by a senior citizen?

No, it was carried out by a 20 year old, using guns bought by his mother!

Guns... so much more important than medical care...
Being a president encompasses more than just medical care. You are displaying the poor rhetoric that stops any kind of constructive dialogue in our country.

Well, having seen how little the administration cares about medical care, I can only say that I am neither surprised nor disappointed at their priorities.

One does not have to be a senior to be disabled. People of all ages are susceptible to brain injuries.

Doesn't make a lot of sense to target the rights of Social Security retirees, then, does it?

So why have laws at all? And if someone IS a danger to themselves or others, you really think arming them is a good idea?

"Brain injuries" wasn't ever part of this issue, but I guess it sounds more convincing if you use that wording, eh?

'Arming them' was never part of this issue, either. Sure sounds ominous, though, doesn't it?
