Guys, I have been posting here for over nine years. Do you know the substance of my very first post? It was revealing satan's greatest weapon that he uses against Christians.

Here is how it goes. Satan, the accuser of the brethren, does what he does best. He accuses. He tells the child of God, after planting a temptation in his path, how pitiful and crummy and hopeless he is, and that he WILL fall and give into the temptation again.... as usual.

'You mean, that's it?? That is his greatest weapon? Give me a break. What is so great about that?"

Hold on a second. He has one more 'twist' to add.... his 'coup de gras'. He does not.speak into our thoughts "You are an unworthy so and so." Oh, no. Not the master deceiver. He whispers:

"I am an unworthy so and so. What is the point of trying to resist? I always fall anyway." and he whispers it..... are you ready .....in OUR voice.

Like a master fisherman, he casts out the delicious bait, a jaded conscience left over from our time under the law.....and with a big hook embedded in it. And what do we do? We swallow it, hook line and sinker. And to make sure the after taste is good so we will come back for more, he makes us feel more humble for biting into the poisoned apple.

Look. WE might not yet know it. But he knows that sin's power has been broken over us. He knows that the old us died when Christ died. He knows we are new creatures, down deep in our core. Bit he also knows that ever since the death of Paul, he has successfully weaseled his way into mainstream Christianity and for 1900 plus years, he has for the most part clouded our vision, and blinded us to who we are in Christ.... new creatures endued with the power to totally overcome the world, the flesh and the devil.

So instead of believing as Paul did, that we are crucified with Christ, that the old us really is DEAD, not slowly being mortified by our well meaning but futile efforts, we continue seeing ourselves as just crummy sinners.... bad, bad sinners. Oh, maybe saved sinners but our core is still a cesspool of crumminess, right? Or so we believe.

We do not believe that we are dead and our life is hid with Christ in God. We do not believe that it is no more us who live but Christ who lives in us. We literally believe the opposite. Oh, we memorize these amazing scriptures. We even quote them. We just don't believe them to be true for us, right here, right now.

Do we get it? Finally REALLY get it? We are believing his lies, the one who, when he lies, is speaking his native language. And we are not believing our God, the God of whom we are told it is IMPOSSIBLE for Him to lie. See why they call satan the master deceiver?

So despite the fact we possess shields of faith that have been guaranteed to shoot down satan's accusations and arrows, despite the promise that our Heavenly Father has given us that He will not allow us to be tempted above hat which we are able to bear, despite God's assurance that sin shall not have dominion over us, we have walked around our entire Christian lives..... with shields down. And defeat has followed like clockwork.

The Word tells us that two cannot walk together unless they are agreed, right? Ever wonder why for the most part God seems so very far away? Bingo.

Listen carefully. All of these promises are not automatic. Let's be sure and understand that. God has ordained that the vehicle that makes them spring into action in our lives is our unshakeable trust in Him and His words to us. Yup. Faith. OUR faith. Not faith that it will be true in some distant future time. That is not faith. That is hope. Bo, real faoth must be NOW faith. Faith is always NOW faith. Believe that you receive it (now) and you shall have it. Amen? And when we do that, the real progressive part of our sanctification really begins. Like REALLY! And why? The hands of the potter have just been given permission to begin to work. And may I encourage you. Seeing yourself begin to be changed into His likeness.....here and now..... will cause amazement and joy and undying gratitude to well up insode you that is almost beyond comprehension.

Look, I get it. We resist believing that we are new, that we are, right now dead to sin, because we do not think we can ever really stop. We know ourselves to well. To make that statement, the pressure that would be hesped on us to "perform" would be immense, right?

Listen. You are right. Yes, we can't stop sinning. But that is not our job in this arrangement! That is God's job. We believe. He works. That is His task as the master potter. But His hands can only begin changing us when we are centered on His wheel, fully trusting that what He has promised HE is able to perform, and yes, WILL perform!

It all starts with our reckoning. (See Romans 6) We must agree with God that sin's power over us is broken, the the old selfish sin-loving us is gone, dead and buried forever. Oh, we may slip again, but it changes NOTHING! All it showed is that our faith wavered momentarily. So, IF we sin ( not when.....IF), we confess it, thank God foe His merciful provision of forgiveness, and IMMEDIATELY we again hoist our shields of faith that we are new creatures. Talk about cleansing guilty consciences! Talk about spitting out the hook satan has succeeded in planting in our minds and hearts ever since the day we were given new nstures! And you wanna see satan get thoroughly fristrated and peeved? That is the way to do it! LOL. You have just become a major threat to the kingdom of darkness. You have just learned your first lesson in how to walk as an overcomer in this life.

Shields up, dear brothers and sisters in Christ. It is time we started believing our God. What He is about to reveal to us, IN us, is going to blow our ever loving minds. We, the real body of Christ, are about to awake and light our lamps. And how we do that?

With our testimony.

"...and they overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of their testimony."

Buckle your seatbelts, dear friends. Things are about to change. WE are about to change. Praise our God forevermore!

Blessings,

Gideon

So you're saying that what we think are our thoughts are Satan's whispers? How can we be sure then that any thoughts are our own? How do we know we're not just puppets in a cosmic game who are given the illusion of free will?

Easy, dear brother. The thoughts that are not lined up with what God has declared to us.... about us..... are not from our damaged ego but from the enemy whose sole goal, if he cannot keep us out of heaven, is to make sure we do not walk in voctory. So he whispers incessantly lest others see the joy in our hearts and long for what we possess.... or more accurately.... who possesses us! We do have free wiil. What a goft! What an honor to be able to choose whom we will serve.

But the deepest lesson a believer can recieve is the one learned by the prodigal son. When he finally realized that it was the exercising of his free will that was the reason for his misery, what did he do? He went back to the Father who faithfully and patiently waited for him to return, and in brokenness, confessed that he was not worthy to be called a son, and asked if he could just serve his father.

He offered up his most precious gift back to the giver of the gift...

... his free will.

And to his astonishment, it was at that moment of full, complete surrender, that he was given the full benefits of sonship.

Have we finally tired of feeding out of our hog troughs, and realized that giving God our free will back now puts God as the one responsible for keeping us from falling? There! That's it. The rest that remains for the people of God.

Now, do we want it more than life itself? Are we willing to stop eating from the tree that offers us the ability to choose good or evil and run into the arms of our Father who waits for us to return? When we do, our Christian walks will never be the same again. Never.

Blessings,

Gideon

He didn't say that. What he says is that Satan speaks in our minds and makes it appear as our own thoughts. There is a difference. When God first revealed Himself to me He spoke in my mind. His voice sounded like my thoughts, but these thoughts had a distinctive quality about them that I had never experienced before.

So it shows that there are different voices that speak in our minds: our own thoughts, God's still small voice, and Satan's accusing voice. Unless you have actually had God reveal Himself to you on a personal level and actually spoken in your mind, then you will never know what that sounds like. God's voice is not an audible voice though, just in case you mistakenly think that I am saying that.

Of course, if you have had the experience of God speaking directly into your mind with His still small voice, you would have known all about it. If you don't, then you still have that to come. Or because you have never heard Him speaking into your mind person to person, it may be that He doesn't know you.

So sorry I did not see you were a sister. My mistake. I hope my answer provided a bit of insight for you.

This is surely no cosmic game being played with us as the pinballs. Our eternities are at stake. That is why getting into the Word and learning who God is, who satan is and who we are is so critically important.

Thus, if we have been born again, and thoughts come to mind that simply go against what God has told us, we can reject it as our thought or one ftom our Father.

Thanks for responding.

Satan's arsenal is infinite and he can work with an individual on many levels at the same time. He also uses mass hypnoses; his greatest victory is the abrogation of God's Law; and a fictitious new covenant.

I do not use Paul as a source of truth but because you have used him I submit this discussion;

Romans 6:14-16 (NKJV)
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
15 What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!
16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

Paul here creates a contest between the Law and grace; a good cop bad cop type of arrangement, which makes Paul the teacher and not Christ.

And there is more here than semantics; Paul is at odds with James:

James 5:19-20 (NKJV)
19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back,
20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.

"This from James, the inspired writer, head of the chief church, at Jerusalem, to whom the Lord Himself appeared separately, one of the pillars of the church. He surely knew who was a brother, who a "mere professor." Well, he speaks to brethren, and says that one among them may fall from grace, and be in danger of the second death; and the remedy here is not a reliance upon the fact that such a one cannot finally be lost, but the effort of other brethren to save him from perishing". IVAN PANIN Pentecostal.

You may think that there isn't a contradiction between Paul and James, this link will help: http://www.barriewilson.com/pdf/Taking-Paul-at-His-Word.pdf

If that be the case, can God judge any? If it is up to each individual belieber to determine what in the Bible they consider divine revelation and what they consider error, we are back to eating the fruit from the tree of knowledge. Each does what is right is his or her eyes. .

The truth is we are given the word of God as a whole. God either allowed it or excluded it, not man. Our choice is to accept it, all of it, and if there are seeming contradictions, it is oir job to search the scriptures and pray so that God can insure that all confusion is obliterated.

Thanks you for posting and I do not want to derail the thread, but if you want to make your points as to why you believe as you do, simply start a thread on it.

Be blessed,

Gideon

Agree the enemy can give thoughts. "But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ." II Cor 11:3

So the serpent gave a negative thought to Eve and her original response was what Yahweh had said. He came back with another thought that challenged the truth and she entertained what the serpent said because= "And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, ..." Gen 3:6 Someone pointed out she did all 3 from ""For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." I John 2:16 Adam - "... and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat." Gen 3:6

We're to take every thought captive (II Cor 10:5) and renew our minds (Rom 12:2) with His Word such as "Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world." (I John 4:4)

If you read the book of Acts, you will find that Luke talks about certain Jewish believers came from Jerusalem to the Galatian churches and taught that in order to be saved they had to abide by the Law of Moses and be circumcised. Paul called those teachers "false apostles". So you are saying that Christian believers have to abide by the Law of Moses, are you not aligning yourself with the "false apostles"?

in actual fact, the new Law that New Covenant Christians follow is not a set of outward rules and regulations. It says that the new Law is written on our hearts. This is how John was able to say that the person born of God does not sin because he cannot. This is because he is not trying, in his own strength to follow a set of outward rules, but his new heart is directing him to do the good works that show that he is a true believer in Christ.

If a person tries to justify himself before God by following a set of outward rules, then he is under a curse, and is showing that he is not a genuine born again believer in Christ. But a genuine believer will live a holy life, because he knows that Christ has called him not to uncleanness but to holiness, so the inward desire of his heart before God will cause him to bring his body under subjection so that he will do all he can to do the things that will glorify Christ.

So sorry I did not see you were a sister. My mistake. I hope my answer provided a bit of insight for you.

This is surely no cosmic game being played with us as the pinballs. Our eternities are at stake. That is why getting into the Word and learning who God is, who satan is and who we are is so critically important.

Thus, if we have been born again, and thoughts come to mind that simply go against what God has told us, we can reject it as our thought or one from our Father.

Thanks for responding.

Gideon
you should take care whom you call sister or brother any way, before you have ascertained it ..not all that call you sister or brother are that .

The Pharisees used doctrines and traditions of men in place of what God gave them; none the less some Jew would have had it right; James's Jerusalem church had the same OT doctrines as the Jews who had the way straight (presumably including circumcision); the Jews referred to in Acts may have wanted to continue in the way that wasn't straight. I do not like using Paul but in 2Tim 3:16 all scripture suitable for correction, refers to the OT.

Proverbs 15:10 (NKJV)
10 Harsh discipline is for him who forsakes the way, And he who hates correction will die.

I do not align myself with anyone; the Law of Moses differed from God's Law only in the sense that Moses's Law is a peculiar application of God's Law; Jesus gives us a new application but the Law is unchanged; if the Jews in Acts were endeavouring to make the way straight (and according to the Gospel of Jesus and John, making the way straight was all God required them to do) it would be coincidental that we would be aligned. You wouldn't call James a false prophet or would you?

The Law that the new covenant uses, is that where no dots or dits are changed or is it where dits and dots are changed; is not that new covenant Law the changed Laws referred to in Daniel 7:25, Hebrews 7:12; if we allow God to change His laws how do we know the difference between God and Satan? If the Law changes so does God's identity and definition. Isaiah prophesied that today people would use Christ's name but wear their own garments.

No one can justify themselves; regarding salvation everything has to be done with God as a participant, in repentance, in marriage and if God is dwelling in one would God keep the Sabbath Holy; He couldn't keep Sunday Holy because Sunday has never been declared Holy nor is Sunday sanctified.

A genuine believer will live a holy life, because he knows that Christ has called him not to uncleanness but to holiness; there is nothing wrong with these words but your application is wrong; a life can only be Holy when God is present in that life; righteousness, unless it is according to God's Law, is dirty rags; again Isaiah prophesied that there will be many forms of righteousness in the last days.

Sparrow, again I would kindly ask that if you want to make your points as to why you do not believe Paul was inspired and why we are still accountable under the law, feel free ro start your own post on it. I would rather not take the original post here and go off on a tangent.

Thanks so much.

I've found that practically, you can make indeed good progress in sanctification by believing that you can win over sin and that it is God's will for you. I just ask Him for help, and it is given me.

I like how you say it is something we ought to trust God with and stop "trying". For me it is similar to the Israelites - you have to just wait and see how God fights for you. Of course that does not exempt me from watchfulness!

I appreciate the reply.

I think that the reason why so many have difficulty believing that Paul's struggle with his own sanctification in Romans 7 is a part of his present experiences rather than what he experienced as a pharisee before his conversion. This is because there is the residual theology that comes from the RCC where a person can have faith in Christ, but he will be judged on his works. A person having that theology is unable to believe that Paul would be having such a struggle where he would say that the things he hated were the things he was doing, and the things he wanted to do in his heart, he ended up not doing. In other words, he is saying that he is having a struggle with sins of commission and of omission.

The truth is that we cannot be justified by our faith in Christ and observance of any moral law at the same time. It is either the one or the other, and it is clear in scripture that those who try to be justified by moral law have departed from Christ and have no interest in Him. This is because Christ has fulfilled and replaced the law with something better. A new heart. This is why Paul was able to say that he wanted to follow the law of God in his heart, but there was another law (the law of sin and death) in his "members", that is, in the desires of his physical body. This is why our physical bodies are destined to die and will be cast off like a snake casts off its old skin. Until that happens, we are always going to have the struggle between the desires of our new heart and the desires of our physical bodies.

Putting aside for now that faith is not a thing but an action..

But we are given power to overcome
Its only a struggle if we desire sin more then we desire God.
And Paul is speaking of a past state before he is transformed.(sanctified).he is not speaking of a state of being .for one . there is no ch 7 ..it is an ongoing text on his way to summarizing the point of what can and has done . This is reflected in all his letters .where he states...“ Now we been quickened together with Christ “(a new state of being) .. who WERE (past tense) dead in trespasses and sin.
Wherein IN TIMES PAST ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that NOW (present tense) worketh in the children of disobedience:
Among whom also we all HAD (PAST tense) our conversation(behaviour)IN TIMES PAST in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and WERE(past tense) by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
....
So if we attempt to use pauls words .plucked out of Romans (and thus out of their context)as excuse for sin OR as a continued state of being. we make ephesians 2 a lie.
And that impossible.

It is true that we will always be aware of the desire of the flesh in which we are clothed.
But It is not true that it has any power over us .except that which we give it.

Its time to cast out all the lie based
Excuses churched Christianity has Ben throwing around the last 50 years .simply because they don't want to STOP sinning.

I have never studied Paul, except when Paul is raised in debate, for the same reason I have never studies Mohammad. You raise an issue that I have never considered before and my difficulty in accepting Paul has nothing to do with residual theology from any source. I agree most people use pre-indoctrination to process scripture.

The Hebrew term that forms the basis for the English translation "sanctify" is "qâdash." and it means "to consecrate," "be holy," "be separate" or "be hallowed."

The opposite of sanctification is profanation. From a Biblical perspective, Sanctification is God's domain and profanation is man's domain. If God sanctifies a man and makes him holy then the man may keep that condition by not being profane. You seem to be saying people have difficulty believing Paul had difficulty overcoming sin as Christ overcame sin and as all are required to overcome sin as did Christ. If it were easy then the victory would have no value; even if Paul had a desire to please God that would not no bearing on whether he was or was not sent by God.

At a glance, Paul's talk about a new Heart and a physical body is an attempt to explain something, but because Paul's epistles at private the something is assumed and the forgotten and all that is left is the hypothetical.

The Law is not a weight to be carried, it is a platform on which to stand.

""The truth is that we cannot be justified by our faith in Christ and observance of any moral law at the same time."" The teaching of God is that both are required at the same time.

I apologize if iv misread ..rather tired at present.

But this individule post makes sense to me.
Because
By Grace are you saved
THROUGH faith.

Never just Grace
Never just faith.
Always both.

And faith...is a verb.
It is what we do in response to what God has graciously done.
