  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I suppose I have the mind set of 'I need a degree or I can't find a full time job' when there are so many people with degrees who are jobless. I need to just let God take care of it but sometimes it is so disheartening because every job around here basically requires long years of experiences, and certifications and degrees. Even something so simple as a secretory or a desk job.
And conversely, there are those of us without degrees who have steady full time jobs. It is not hopeless, I promise. :)

Not to brag-- everything I have is because God is gracious-- but-- I have no degree-- but am making over two dollars an hour above minimum wage, and am only scratching the surface of my earning potential in this field.

Yes, it's true that you can find a stable, full time job, but don't give up on your education, education is important and not only will help your chances of finding a good job, but will make you a more well-rounded person.

This is true about having a full time job without a degree. Over here that is actually hard to come by unless you have the lengthy years of experience they require. I suppose this is half frustration coming from me since I have no experience and I'm almost 23, so most places won't even give me a chance. Training isn't a horrible thing.

It's true though.

I vehemently hated school/college.

Free learning on my own on the other hand. Great.
It is true for the most part. There's a social norm in universities on how one should think. They would absolutely despise me if I went into theology at a university level lol. Likewise with philosophy... likewise if I ever went into anything to do with science (being a young earth creationist).
A lot of people who go on to higher education don't have their own grounds to stand on and easily get absorbed into whatever direction is taught.

I think it has value though. Like, I get what Matt's saying about it making you rounded. The structure provides a good platform for many people to benefit from. You'll also learn things at an in-depth level that you might not be able to take yourself too easily.
It also depends on what you want to do in life.

Then there's also the obvious advantage university has is that you come out qualified and with the piece of paper. Will take you many places career wise, opens so many doors.

But free-learning is priceless. People don't realize how valuable it is... and I find that many people that do go onto higher education who don't think philosophically on their own often look down on those who do, and think they don't know what they're talking about because they never went onto higher education. Which of course couldn't be farther from the truth.

Yeah, one has to take into account that many people cannot form their own opinions. While many of them can still be smart and soak up knowledge pretty well, they're often not able to see beyond the scope of what has been given to them.

If you have the motivation you can. Also I don't think you really learn most things in depth at school/college. Just surface facts to get a good grade on that test/exam.

It also depends on what you want to do in life.

Yeah. Sadly we have to prove some way that people bothered to educate themselves. Sadly the methods thus far are garbage but it's the only realistic garbage to sort through.

Well I certainly don't, and probably never will. Honestly I'm probably the reverse. The more formal education one has the more likely I will tune out their text-book thoughts. Lol.

OMM: I signed up for a while ago on a Christian dating website just to see who was around but for some reason (poor code on the website) it shows me mostly men to preview. So for kicks I sometimes will click the profiles and read their profiles... and all I gotta say is I feel really, really sorry for my Godly sisters in Christ lol. Some very unsavory profiles... and it's interesting to note if I click on female profiles on the site, almost all of them talk about God and how they serve him, very good profiles... but then you click on the men and you don't see God mentioned anywhere in their profiles and you see many shirtless and or posing men.

You have my sympathy anyway lol. The struggle is real on both sides...

Oh sweetheart. You have no idea. I'm a part of a dating website or two (an embarrassing struggle of mine) and I can't tell you all the crap I receive. XD I have so many stories, even of Christian men being superficial with appearance and being jerks.

Really? On that dating sites I go too many of the women are not any better than the men when it comes to being crass. Lol.

"Christian" men haha... 'cause all I'm seein' are worldly men on these sites... maybe one or two profile's that have genuine relationships with Christ.

This one's purely for Christians. But yeah the women all seem very real and have a genuine relationship for Christ, partly the reason I keep going on it... while the men I've been clicking on out of curiosity I'm just like... wow...

I understand. While not a Christian I don't like loose women. I've had a few try to meet up with me in real life and I'm secretly like.. "you're probably diseased" and stop responding, lol.

I've been intentionally ignored and dropped to the side and strung along by two supposedly Godly men. Because I'm not skinny, and the other found someone better. Tell me how that is Christian like without at least being honest. Seriously.

Yeah. Some might think I'm being sexist, I'm not. If a guy is loose I understand if a woman wants to stay away from him for hygienic reasons.

Honestly I have a lot of phobias. Not just that, but ending up with a psycho woman. Good thing for me at least, I'm good at getting women to open up about themselves in their messages. So I've dodged a lot of most likely dangerous women.

I don't know about other men, but I don't have a need to feel loved and coddled so I don't really have much of an urge to take any risks with women.

It's not Christian like. Sorry you've had those experiences. A lot of men are superficial as a whole... but the bible talks a lot about the true qualities to look for other than superficial ones. Talks about a woman who is meek, talks about inward beauty over outward. Proverbs 31 woman is who I personally look for, a meek woman... plus I think everyone is beautiful who exudes inner beauty anyway, like, physical often comes from the inner.

Many woman who the world finds beautiful I don't because their inner-self comes out into their physical looks in some ways.

Both genders can be pretty superficial when it comes to outer beauty.

Which is natural, it's part of the evolutionary process. Only thing that makes me angry is when body positive movements try to have double standard with the genders.

Youthfulness is very important to me, as it statistically is for most men. I don't take it well when a woman who has a history of rejecting men for their lack of height tells men that they need to be with women their own age.. (talking 30s and up here, lol.)
