Funny .... but also not in that it's often true. I'm just SO glad my daughter and my husband have caught on to the fact of being glued to a phone instead of being with people is not good, and when my daughter comes to visit, the phone is out for maybe ten seconds if she wants to show me something.

It's sad being around people who will never get off the thing.

Re the phone - I agree.

Till my husband was ill I'd never really bothered about a mobile phone - but got one then so the Hospital could call me instantly no matter where I was.

Now I have a Smart Phone - as a friend puts it a Fruity phone 5S :) because i can adjust my hearing aids with it. Yes it's used on WiFi though I do have a data allowance for it - but I've never actually used that ! My phone is always in my pocket - and goes upstairs with me at night so if I have problems I can call for help.

and eating unhealthy, especially bacon, at least you'll die happy
I have to say, bacon (pork belly, etc.) is quite a tempting treat. I haven't haven't had meat except fish for 9 years, but every once in a great while, I will have a bite of some really good bacon or pork belly! Just one bite to savor...It's a good Pascha treat ;) or during our fast-free weeks.

My husband would never have a diet like mine except during Lent, so it is tempting!

My younger daughter was basically vegetarian for most of her life - even as a toddler she really didn't like eating meat and it took some time for me to accept that.

Strangely enough she 'converted' back to being a carnivore aged about 20 - and it was the smell of nice crispy bacon that did it :)

I liked bacon back when I was growing up. It's not the same anymore? Though there's a good bite here and there.

I used to read a lot of Scripture to my daughter when she was small. And something stuck with her that made her decide that she wasn't supposed to eat pork. I explained gently why we believe what we do, but I respected her conviction, which she held for some time. It was bacon that caused her to revisit the idea though. ;)

I admit hearing about bacon-flavored everything, including chocolate, just sounded weird to me when it was so popular a couple of years ago. But I'd bet maple and bacon are a good combo. And I've probably had it at some point(s). ;)

Now I will say...when I was in Ireland, we (my family, not me) tried the "non-American" bacon. I had to run out of the room...it smelled horrid! It's a completely different smell. I don't think it is cured. Could you confirm Anhelyna? Is it the same way in England?

Is American bacon different ? I've no idea - honest.

To me when it's cooking it smells wonderful :D And the taste -- aaaaaah - it's torment if I smell it frying or grilling during the Fast periods

All4Christ,

I spent 6 years over in England, and to be honest, their bacon is a little different than our American bacon. It's certainly not bad, but it seems closer to ham, or what we'd consider Canadian bacon. It smells similar to American bacon though and tastes as good, but slightly different. I've not noticed any rancid smells associated with it.

I can only imagine that what you smelled in Ireland was in fact not cured, and I believe British bacon is cured.
