Keep in mind in the Old Testament, God did ask to kill or maim in his name, and if Jesus is God, who is supposed to be the same forever, then that would not change. If Jesus is God, it would follow that he has God's same views. Though as the differences in our posts show, God in the Old Testament and Jesus in the New have different views in that regard.

That's the difference between the Old Covenant and the new. God himself does not change. But he does operate in different manners. The OT has a lot of examples of that. God didn't do the same thing all the time. He changed his methods at different times. Through Christ he offered a New Covenant to replace the old. The old had its purpose and was fulfilled by Jesus. Jesus being God proclaimed this new covenant. Remember "all the old things have passed away, behold all things,are made new." Belief in Jesus puts us into the new covenant. A new way of doing things.

Those calling for the whole world to unite under their religion and stating that the world would be better if this only happened have to realise that all other religions advertise much in the same way.

The Christianity of the bible. Individual denominations are not individual christianities. We may have differing methods of worship, but the bible tells us clearly that only faith in Christ brings us salvation and that we are to live out that salvation in our daily lives in righteous living. The rest is doctrinal differences that do not need to interfere with the harmony of brotherhood. I may disagree with,my brother in the doctrine of speaking in tongues, but that should not create a lack of love or righteous living in unity.

If anyone preaches a different gospel than is contained in scripture they are cursed and not Christian. The bible says that.

Keep in mind Jesus said that he came not to abolish the law but to funfill it, and that not a dot of the law should be negated, and no one should say to not follow those laws. While Jesus did give a new convenient, it didn't change some things like abolishing slavery.

And there's a big difference between "God ordering mass slaughter, rape, and enslavement" and "God just saying to love your neighbor as yourself", a difference far greater than "God changing tactics". If God changes tactics, then he changes, or if he goes from one to the other, than one would expect him to start the mass killing orders again.

See, the catholic church (the biggest denomination of christianity) teaches things differently. They say that while faith is neccessary, good works are, too.
