I can't remember if I read it in here, on another website, or in one of my books, but I read St. Seraphim talk about how God allows us to fall into sins to keep us humble and from entering the dangerous territory of self-assured sanctimonious holier-than-thou arrogance, something like that...It was along the lines of what St. Paul says about the thorn in his side.

Can anyone tell me that quote and where it comes from? It's driving me nuts! I have sixth grade teacher onset Alzheimers today! LOL

found this:

“The Lord sometimes allows people who are devoted to Him to fall into such dreadful vices; and this is in order to prevent them from falling into a still greater sin–pride.

Your temptation will pass and you will spend the remaining days of your life in humility. Only do not forget your sin.”

— St. Seraphim of Sarov

That is EXACTLY it, Rob! Thank you, brother! I like to keep quotes like that. It's incredible, and very true. Thanks again! Citation would be great!

The book I have is "On the Acquisition of the Holy Spirit" by St. Seraphim of Sarov. I don't think the quote is in there but it's worth a good re-read anyway. It's a small book only 58 pages in length if you are interested in reading more from him.
