  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Tradition is what the Catholic Church sees fit to make up.
Yeah, things like the Trinity and other traditions that the Protestant Church has learned from the Catholic Church. The work "trinity" is not mentioned in the Bible yet it is taught as a foundation of Christian faith. Things like this come from Catholic Tradition

Since telepathy or a similar method of doctrinal transmission is not part of the Catholic tradition, the Catholics do not have the knowledge of the apostles either.
Yeah, they been gone for a long time.......Now being led by the Holy Spirit.....that's different....

I'd say the Eastern Orthodox is closer to the foundation, the Roman Catholic church has blood on its hands and the apple that fell from its tree (protestant denominations and descendants) didn't make the world it cultivated any better.

Trinity was worked out well before the Roman Catholic Church was even the beginning of an idea....now if you want to say the Church catholic then that is a different matter......

The knowledge of the traditions of the Apostles
What traditions? I have asked this question 20+ times of Catholics and outside of 'Scripture' got nothing. What tradition; from who; when....you gotta have something other than it is what you are told to believe don't you?

I think the Eastern Orthodox might disagree with that.....
It;s basically the same church without a Pope and the Priests can marry. Greek instead of Latin They also have Apostolic Succession

No they don't, they come from the Bible. To quote the Westminster Confession of Faith:

"The whole counsel of God, concerning all things necessary for His own glory, man's salvation, faith and life, is either expressly set down in Scripture, or by good and necessary consequence may be deduced from Scripture: unto which nothing at any time is to be added, whether by new revelations of the Spirit, or traditions of men."

The Trinity falling within the italicised category.

I think some orthodox groups might seem the same, but only when the focus on people obeying the rules, otherwise this glazes over differences in the way sin is understood and other important issues.

Again, they would disagree with you....can you take Communion together?.....I think not.....can a Catholic priest celebrate EO mass.....nope. Alot more between the two than you want to believe.......

You learn from your teacher who learns from their teacher who learns from the Apostles
I heard about Jesus because I lived in a culture saturated with protestantism, I didn't go to church til much later after hearing about Jesus. When I did find fellowship in a church, their failing was in the area of discipleship ... so I needed to figure out many things on my own. It is quite regrettable, but what can be done?

Except that they too adopted many doctrines and practices at variance with the NT. They are the original Catholics.

The Bible does not teach theosis or divinization (as one glaring example). The Bible teaches that the saints will be glorified, and resemble Christ, not become "little gods".

St. Athanasius of Alexandria wrote, "He was incarnate that we might be made god" (Αὐτὸς γὰρ ἐνηνθρώπησεν, ἵνα ἡμεῖς θεοποιηθῶμεν).

St. Maximus the Confessor wrote: "A sure warrant for looking forward with hope to deification of human nature is provided by the Incarnation of God, which makes man God to the same degree as God Himself became man...

I honestly don' t know them and never asked. I'm still a pretty new Catholic. The Priests learn them in Seminary and keep learning them until they become a Bishop. Part of it is knowing the words to say when you are doing certain blessings or work in the church I think. Also the more detailed inner workins of the trinity and how salvation works and how sacraments work and all the mysteries of the church
