Matthew 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.Hello Bob.
Your not under the commandment to not commit adultery.
You are under the law of Christ, to not commit sexual immorality.
These two commandments are different commandments.
Adultery is listed under the Old Covenant (Exodus 20).
Sexual immorality is listed under the New Covenant.
If you tell people that they are under the commandment to not commit adultery,
then you are misleading people.
1 Thessalonians 4
2 For you know what commandments we gave you by the authority of the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality;
Adultery and sexual immorality are very different words.
Matthew 19:18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,
Matthew 19:19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
James 2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.
Revelation 2:22 Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
Revelation 2:23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
Adultery is a valid commandment then and now. There are multiple sexual laws that make up "sexual immorality". See Leviticus 18 for several examples such as incest, marrying two sisters at once, marrying a woman and her mother at once, having sex with a woman on her period, adultery, homosexuality, and bestiality. Being a harlot also forbidden in Deuteronomy 23:17..
