  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How does one come to believe something?

Found guilty how? Convicted by whom?
Any way you want it... you come down to the first scenario: both sides present their cases, present their evidence, try to convince the jury.

You don't get to jump this part because it doesn't suit you.

So it seems to me that you have it backwards... you already declared the defendent guilty without a trial, because you know you have no leg to stand on. I can appeal on the simple fact that I didn't get a fair trial.. hey, no trial at all!
You can read about it if you want: We are a fallen race, thrown out of the kingdom of God into this prison we call the world, convicted by God, whom gave life to our first ancestor that betrayed Him. The history of the world is the story of that betrayal, unfolded from the one man into the billions who make up all of humanity. You, then, are part of the story...wherein you will either take your part among those who are regretful (repentant) or among those who are not.

The original judgement was given by God who made the man who betrayed Him, the sentence of which was death: everyone dies. The final judgement - the one you now face - is by you: You are who you are, and will either accept the terms of God's plan of reconciliation, or not. If you do decide that you will accept His terms, He has arranged to raise you from the dead. Cool huh?

More opinion and empty claims.

So how can we tell whether it's God speaking through you or it's just you being pompous?
The language is spiritual. If you re-connect with God, He will fill you with His spirit, and you will know the truth. So, then, you do not get that from me, but from Him who sent me. Nevertheless, I have told you the truth.

Your lack of doubt isn't the issue. It's your lack of good evidence that's the issue. I can find countless people who have claims for which they have no doubt but who you would disagree with. And I'm sure they would say something similar to your "I have passed through the valley...". Whatever you would say to them, they would deny it and continue to insist that their claim is correct instead, using the same type of phraseology that you do.

How do you discuss things then?
For some reason, you are under the impression that the answer is in others - it's not - it's in you. You are who you are, and this is your time to be counted among those who want to be reconciled with God...or not, in which case, this is it.

You realize that you didn't address what I wrote at all, right?

Person B says to you "Yes Scott, the truth of God-B is within your heart. You just have to give up your false religion and embrace it."

Then what?

That is obviously false. If you were speaking from experience, if you "recognize" where I am "in the process", if you knew "both sides"... you wouldn't talk to me in the way you do.

I don't mock you... I pitty you. This need, this, yes, desperation of needing to be accepted as God's spokesman, as being on an equal level of God himself when faced with rejection... this isn't healthy.

But I cannot help you there.
"Mock", "pitty", either way...that is why I talk to you the way I do. But I have tried, and given you the truth even though you did not deserve or appreciate it.

I made an attempt to put you on the right path instead of you looking for the answers where you will never find them. Let me ask you: Do you want to find the truth about God...and if so, are you willing to look where He can be found?

It would be better if you start with the court analogy...which as I pointed out is rather a prison analogy (that is what we get for getting ahead of your progress).

The prison analogy: Change your ways. Make your appeal. Do your time. Re-enter the society and the reality of God a changed person.

Meanwhile, God is not lacking in His approach as you suggest, but is merciful in giving you this opportunity. He is in complete control, and all things are by design.

Another thing: You will not find God or Truth in the world, or in others...but rather within you. Whether that means you find yourself to be of God, that you should return to Him, or not. Either way, that is all between you and God - I am simply in His service, as you too will be, if you come around.

Oh boy. Take a seat bro.

To quote someone who might be familiar to you.

"You do not sound joyful..."

It's only, sniff sniff, because nobody laughs at my jokes!

You have yet to demonstrate, you have any knowledge of the right path.

You really don't think that being an atheist and disliking Christians to the extent of going out of your way to avoid them because it was 'a big yuck!', and being a Christian living in the 'unimaginable joy' of God, are opposite poles of belief, feeling, and emotion?

One wonders what you would consider to be opposite poles!

The reason is because I know first hand the connection...

You don't get to the Promised Land...
Unless...
You first go through the Dessert...

Christians live antinomonially... We have Russian Churches named, for instance, "The Joy of All Who Sorrow"...

The Treasury of God is only attained in the poverty of the world...

You see, as an atheist, and later as a non-Christian who knew God, I had no way of understanding Christians...
The western Christianity with which you are familiar is actually almost a caricature of the Original, which is still going strong... The Eastern Orthodox Church is the Original Christianity... It is the Gold Standard of Christianity... The rest is watered down in varying degrees, some almost or even perhaps not at all, and some a lot...

Prior to meeting God, I walked in unimaginable sorrow...
The difference is night and day, true enough...
They are opposite poles in a polar understanding...
For me, I see joy even in unimaginable sorrows...

It sounds like you're a True Christian.

Thank-you...

I like to say that I am a poor man's imitation of true Christians...

Which is, it turns out, a fairly Christian thing to say...

Mind-you! :)
