• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

STILL no actual evidence FOR creation

Out of curiosity, AV, what event did you start (or end) with in your own calculations, where you said you got a similar date to Ussher?
I started with Adam, then went to 1 Chronicles, and finished with Matthew.

But if you operated independently from Ussher, how did you know when to put Adam's creation?

I don't mean to steal your laughter, but others believe that the universe miraculously appeared.
It was no miracle. It was sovereignly designed and created. It is still being sovereignly guided and directed today. There is no random to the world or the universe.
People who promote such randomness are people who believe magic is real.

And when God destroys it in the end with "fervent heat," as Peter put it, what will that be?

Is He 'sovereignly guiding and directing' it to sudden destruction?

Yes.

He is Sovereign. He does what He wills and you have no say in the matter.

Do you understand what grace is? If you do, you'll understand God's sovereignty. If you don't understand grace, you will fight against God's sovereignty.

Well, as you might already know from my religious affiliation, I do not believe the earth is going to be literally destroyed, only the old system of the world. But whatever his will is regarding anything, it is up to him alone.

Been gone for a bit, but I see that there is still no evidence for creation presented, just attacks on evolution.

The reason cannot be more obvious.

The same old question: What kind of evidence you like to see?
I don't think you know what you are looking for.

Then why do Christians throughout history try to cajole Him through intercessory prayer?

1) Prayer reveals God's grace. (This may be a concept you do not understand.)
2) Prayer changes the person who prays. It puts us in sync with God.

Codswallop. You just admitted that intercessory prayer is futile.

You seem to have no grasp of grace.
No human knows the ordinances of God. We can seek Him to act on our behalf. If it fits within His ordinance He may grant it. If it does not fit within His ordinance, He will not grant it. Either act of His Sovereign will shall bring about a blessing that changes us to be more sanctified.
This seems to be something you cannot grasp as you do not grasp the concept of grace.

So you're saying that it is possible, through prayer, to compel or cajole God to act in such a way that He would not have done but for the prayer?

And if I may go back to a previous gem of yours:

Prayer changes the person who prays. It puts us in sync with God.

Meaning that every time someone says that they're going to pray for me or some other nonbeliever, (which occasionally happens after they get their posterior handed to them in these forums), it has nothing to do with the person being prayed for and everything to do with person praying... which, honestly, I sort of figured out already.

I'm saying that we are told to pray, but God will sovereignly determine His own action to our prayer. God will not act against His own will to appease our tears.
I can ask God to open your eyes and unstops your ears and break your pride, but if it is not according to His sovereign will, He will simply say, no.

What will happen is I will be tuned in to God's will by praying and seeing what He chooses to do. I have seen prayers answered 20 + years later, so I just trust God in all things.
