• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey Guys! Man it feels good to be in a place with fellow Christians. Growing up I got saved at a very young age, sometimes I doubted that I was actually saved so I would pray the prayer of salvation sooo many times...knowing it's not the words that save me but God's grace alone...it's just hard because I let those doubts get to me, such as "Did I really mean it??" Does anyone else struggle with that?

I had an experience lately where I almost died and I didn't have one of those near death experiences that people comment on. I'm so thankful I am alive and God still has purpose for me but it got me questioning...if I didn't have a near death experience or see Jesus or a "bright light" does that mean I'm not saved? I know this sounds insane but these thoughts keep running through my head! I don't even remember if I saw anything I just remember waking up and I was fine. I know we have to be careful and attentive to what people claim to be near death experiences but it really shook me and was wondering if anyone had some wisdom or Christian words for me. Thanks!

I have found the real test of salvation, Maggie, is what one's relationship with the Lord Jesus is. If one has Him in their heart and is devoted to Him, that one is "born again" by God's Spirit and all is well (see 1 Jn. 5:10-12); which speaks of a real relationship and not just an intellectual reasoning in the mind:

A. Has one confessed to God in private conversation that they are a sinner by nature and practice?
B. Has one read the Gospel messages ---noting John 1; John 3; John 14; John 17?
B. Has one thanked God--the Father for sending His beloved Son to the Cross for one's sinfulness?
C. Has one received God's gift of His beloved Son ---Jesus, the Christ of God and our only Savior?
D. Has one made the Lord Jesus the lord of one's life and best Friend?
E. Has one been walking and talking with the Savior daily?

Don't be fooled and deceived by Satan playing with the mind, but hold fast to the Word of God and trust the Savior.

The evidence seems to indicate that the "near death experience" is the brains response to oxygen starvation. I seriously doubt that there is an actual spiritual component to this phenomenon.

I almost died three times. At the age of 3, when i climbed the balcony, apartment was located on the ninth floor. I was at the edge of the platform. If i moved even a little bit, i would have fell down to my death. I didnt move for some reason. I watched my parents as they slowly got closer to me cause if they ran at me, they would have startled me, i would have moved, and fell to my death. Luckily they were able to get me from the balcony. Same age, I went with my parents shopping, i was in the stroller, waiting for the green light on a crosswalk. I was an active boy, i somehow slipped through the stroller belt, and ran on a red light. My parents couldnt believe what was happening. I ran across the road, as the cars came by, some of them beeping as they passed by. Not one car hit me, i stopped in between two cars, my parents were shocked cause I was inches from the car as they were screaming for me. I wasnt able to recall everything, my parents told me in detail, and their friends and family that witnessed this.

Last one was a near death experience. I was 17 and I was walking up the crosswalk, left side of the intersection. It was winter and was snowing heavy. A north bound white van was speeding over 100 mph, took a right turn, without stopping, you could hear the wheels. I was right in front of the van, I don't know how i escaped. All i remember i did the matrix. Soon as i saw the van, my heart was pumping fast, my body jolted, there was flashes of light, tunnel vision as lay on the ground, on the side walk, after escaping for sure could have been a fatal accident. I didn't get up for 5 minutes. No one was around. Streets were empty. I was shaking and when i was on the ground, i thought the car actually hit me cause i was in a very traumatised state of mind, the way my body reacted as if i actually got hit by a car. Even when i went home, I couldnt get over it, the flashes of light and what i saw. It was like i was in another world.

I've near about died twiced in my life, my life didn't flash before my eyes, I didn't see Jesus.
I did however see a bright light.
So no, I don't think it means you're not saved. But if you got doubts, John 3:16 is all you need.
Jesus gave you two commandments, Love God with all your heart, mind, and soul. And love thy neighbor. Do these, with prayer, devotion, and repentance. And you aint got nothing to worry about.

Only about twenty percent of people who have a brush with death
consciously remember an out of the body experience similar to
whoever it was that the Apostle Paul was writing about in
II Corinthians 12:2-4.

One of the primary reasons to forget whatever you may have been
shown during your brush with death is that there are greater rewards
for doing what you should..... without a conscious memory.

I personally find the NDE account of former Atheist Howard Storm to be
profoundly encouraging and inspirational.

I would love to have your reply to this poll
question that I began a while ago:

The being of light of NDE fame, G-d or Satan?

Poll: The being of light of NDE fame, G-d or Satan?

It seems to me that we are in a situation somewhat like the time of the Prophet Elijah.

1Kings 18:21 "And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word."

I began to study these experiences a great deal back in 1990. They immediately made me realize that the "soul sleep" doctrine that I had been taught was almost certainly in error. I got kicked out of two churches due to disagreements mainly over that doctrine. But as a Christian there was no way that I could deny the possibility of people having an "out of the body experience!"

2 Corinthians 12:2 "I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
And I knew such a man, (whether in the body, or out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;)
How that he was caught up into paradise, and heard unspeakable words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter."

Dreams I hardly even am aware of. But if do have one and wake up, in about three seconds or so can't recall even what any of it was. Even if try very hard, end up giving up trying to recall even a small part of what it was about.
The NDE still sticks with me many years later as so real, that can go right back at my feelings then, my thoughts, what I saw. It was sooooooo very different than a dream!

Yes... the transformative power of near death experiences is
fascinating to many psychologists.

Bright Lights, Big Mystery | Psychology Today

.... Psychologist Ring has identified a consistent set of value and belief changes. They include:
a greater appreciation for life
o higher self-esteem
o greater compassion for others
o a heightened sense of purpose and self-understanding
o desire to learn
o elevated spirituality
o greater ecological sensitivity and planetary concern
o a feeling of being more intuitive, sometimes psychic.
o He also observes "psychophysical changes," including:
o increased physical sensitivity
o diminished tolerance to light, alcohol, and drugs
o a feeling that their brains have been "altered" to encompass more
o a feeling that they are now using their "whole brain" rather than just a small part.

Chill Bro,
i feel U need to rest ,and cast this question to god . god want every kid to have a joyful life with no doubt and worry , anything makes U doubt whether U are saved or not is not from God . the bible tells us many times to trust and have confidence in God , he will never forsake us or leave us.

I think I can say every Christians has doubted (even without a near-death experience!) Whenever doubts enter my mind, I just immediately throw them back to Jesus and ask Him to directly give me faith. A very child-like prayer. And He comes through; so I pray that He will conquer your doubts as well!

Yes, we need to get and keep the habit of turning to the Word of God prayerfully so that our trust in the Lord and in the work of the Lord Jesus at the Cross is strengthened.

Armed with this type of approach the time is coming soon when a significant percentage of active Christians will get to the place where they will have zero fear for the astonishing wisdom that has been given to a fifteen year old Israeli youth, who had a near death experience in September of 2015.

I highly recommend doing a search for that..... especially the Breaking Israel News version of the write up on it.
