  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hahaha, no just no.
The video shows all the evidence you will ever need so you can draw your own conclusion. I believe what I believe and what you believe is up to you to decide.

There is nothing wrong with allowing the public to examine the physical evidence for what we read about in our Bible. The Catholic Church does not make a claim one way or the other. Each individual needs to decide for themselves if the Shroud is real or not. I personally would not care IF the shroud were a fake because the Shroud is still an incredible teaching aid. Through the shroud we can learn about the death, burial and resurrection of Christ Jesus. This is why the Shroud is a photo negative because of the resurrection power of God. The same resurrection power that is at work in us that are saved and redeemed. So if the forgery can duplicate the resurrection power of God then maybe they can use that power to raise people from the dead.

What on earth are you talking about? Who can use the shroud for necromancy? Isnt the bible kinda hard on witches?

If the shroud is a forgery then why does the Catholic Church not tell us that?

Money and tourism, plain and simple.

Religious relics have been used to drum up trade for as long as there have been religions.

During the middle ages in particular, there were huge amounts of fake religious relics. For example there were numerous churches which would all tell you they had the head of John the Baptist, several claiming to have foreskins belonging to Jesus plus thousands of other claims of bones of saints, pieces of the cross, hair, teeth, clothes, whatever. Virtually every single one (if not all) of these relics were fake, otherwise you would have people with multiple heads and enough bones for multiple people. How easy it must have been for senior members of the church to claim that a bone is that of a saint, place it in their church and see the money roll in.

Not everyone at the time was fooled, however. One of the best example of this is the very humourous Pardoner's tale from the Canterbury tales.

For me the most astonishing thing about the Shroud of Turin is that people still regard it as real when virtually every other religious relic has been cast aside.

Because that is what the evidence indicates. The Shroud is indeed astonishing. It the Shroud was a fake that would be obvious but the scientific evidence indicates that the Shroud is real.

Not true.

The scientific evidence says the shroud was made in the late 1200s, early 1300s, precisely the time when the first records of it appear and right in the middle of the medieval obsession with relics.

I wonder why that is?
The church does not want the DNA of the blood tested. They are afraid that someone will try to clone Jesus. The photo is of sturp the one time they did let them bring in their scientific equipment to test the shroud.

They're not talking about DNA testing, but date testing.

What is 'strup'? What exactly are you trying to show with that photo?

The other thing is, the church could supervise the testing with their own scientists, so Joshua's claim is bogus.
