Well, that paper of post 21504 is going to have to wait. I've got the scripture references I need to write on for a study guide at church and the first is Mark's account of the Triumphal entry. I think I have more to write on than space allowed... We'll see.
The conundrum I'm facing is the donkey on which Jesus rode. Western presuppositions about donkeys aside, this was not a sign of humility; rather it was a sign of kingship in the ancient Near East and a prevalent motif in the Old Testament (some scholars asserting the references to the Patriarchs' donkeys is anticipation to the king that would come from their line). I'll be looking into the Ante-Nicene Fathers later on to see if I can get some idea of when the picture of riding a donkey became thought as humble instead of kingly.
If I'm not grappling with the early or late date for the Exodus, it seems I'm contemplating donkeys.
