Setting the Christian Faith aside for a second (you'll see why in a minute)...
Public Schools stick a group of 20-30 or so kids in a single classroom and assumes that they all learn each subject at the same rate (which is preposterous).
I can speak from my own experience, that I was held back in a public school. My school environment was horrible, I was the victim of daily bullying. I wasn't a large guy, I wasn't particularly strong, and I lived in a rural area and had little to no experience in dealing with other children my age prior to going to school, AND my big brother went to school ahead of me and would always talk about 'his weird little brother' and so the kids he went to school with would talk to their younger siblings and... well I got bullied. A lot.
I hated the environment so much that I refused to have anything to do with school when I got home. I aced tests with Straight As quite frequently I might add (I'm trying not to boast or take pride, but I do need to speak the truth). I was particularly good at science and math, but yet at the end of 6th Grade, where you make a fork in the road... Math 7 for the kids who did poorly, or Intro to Algebra for the kids who were doing well. I easily qualified for ItA but they stuck me in Math 7 because I refused to do the homework.
This meant that I lost a year, and at my senior year when I should have been in Calculus, I was instead sitting in Trig Class with a number of Juniors during my Senior year.
And of course this gave them more ammo to bully with -- I was a year back so I must be stupid, right? Let's not forget the fact that I got straight As on my tests, and during my Senior Year, I got a 100% on Quarter 4 in Physics class, and it wasn't because the teacher was lax -- a lot of kids got low Bs and Cs in the same class.
Home-Schooling or even Private Schooling means that your child will learn at THEIR rate of learning. When you stick 20-30 kids together, you will always have some kids being held back, and other kids being left behind. The class is always going to go too fast or too slow for I would say at least half the classroom. It's horribly inefficient, and if you're a kid who already knows the stuff, you're bored out of your mind and you get disinterested and it's a complete waste of your time. If you're a kid who is struggling to learn at that pace, then it's sailing over your head and you're getting frustrated and/or you get held back in summer school (I praise the Lord I never had to go there, those kids got bullied even worse than I did).
Now, I said I set the Christian Faith aside....
That's because when you consider everything I said thusfar, that alone is some pretty hefty reasons to NOT want your kids Public Schooled.
When you ALSO add something even MORE important, like Christian Values to the mix... you're no longer wondering whether or not you should send your kid to public school, it's more of a "How can I get out of sending them to Public School?"
I wish I had been church-schooled or better yet, home-schooled. Even private school would have been better.
I can only imagine how far I could have gone, had I been taught at the pace I was capable of learning at.
But sadly, I'm 36 now and with the way things are in the world... there's really no room to be looking back. And besides, I'm sure Heaven has far better schools, lol.
