  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are people from time to time that will refer to Evolution as Evilution. I wonder if there is some validity to their claim. First of all the definition of the word "evil" is: "wicked, bad, wrong, immoral, sinful, foul, vile, dishonorable, corrupt, iniquitous, depraved, reprobate, villainous, nefarious, vicious, malicious"

<staff edit> I would like to look at the word "corrupt": "dishonest, unscrupulous, dishonorable, unprincipled, unethical, amoral, untrustworthy, venal, underhanded, double-dealing, fraudulent, bribable, criminal, illegal, unlawful, nefarious;"

I think that most of the Christians would testify that they see a lot of this corruption in the doctrine of the so called evolutionists that post on these sort of venues. So I wonder do they really represent evolution<staff edit>.

When the skeptics and scoffers use science to accomplish their objective it does more harm and damage to science then anything else. True men of science need to take more of a stand for the truth. At some point in time they need to take a stand for the truth and stand up to the people that have the objective of maligning the truth to promote their corruption.

You're kind of all over the place. You created this whole other thread about Francis Collins' beliefs & seem to respect him. You know he absolutely accepts evolution, right? "Eviloution" is just really dumb nonsense creationists made up out of pride. They don't want to admit they're wrong about evolution so they have to demonize it.

The designer takes responsibility for His design... or did He not take choking into consideration?

Ah, but I do appreciate it... from an evolutionary standpoint, it works.

I would've expected more from an intelligent designer, but since I don't believe in one, it's moot.

This same argument about expectations keeps getting regurgitated. I'd like to hear a response to this post I made on the previous page.

You make it sound as though you've found the perfect argument to see the worst in life. I remember watching a show which featured something about choking and how hot dogs are perfect for choking. The rounded tip fits snugly in the throat and it's very difficult to dislodge once it's there.

Sometimes it's the shape of the food. Sometimes it's because the food is not properly chewed. Sometimes it's because the food is eaten too quickly. People understand what causes choking and yet it still keeps happening. Why? Because we want our hot dogs? Because of poor education? Why isn't education about this kind of thing made a priority in first grade and reviewed in subsequent grades to be sure the lesson sticks? Who really cares about choking before it actually happens and why should it be evidence of poor design that we're too lazy or uneducated to chew our food properly or to teach other people about chewing their food properly?

But, ok, even with good education and diligent chewing, accidents happen; people choke. They also break bones, bleed, grow old and any number of other problems which can happen to the body. Of course, Godcould give us better bodies, but these are the bodies he's given us. Life in general is full of problems. It's our job to learn and grow, sometimes because of those problems and sometimes despite those problems. There are plenty of people who learn character, courage, backbone, integrity and compassion because of their perseverance through the challenges of life.

They could spend their time complaining about their problems, but that only leads to bitterness and hardness of heart.

Which is simply not true, since it's hardly the worst... however, we can't help but acknowledge that there's room for improvement.

Are you saying that He could have done better, but deliberately chose not to?

Not that I'm disagreeing, mind you...

Life in general is full of problems. It's our job to learn and grow, sometimes because of those problems and sometimes despite those problems. There are plenty of people who learn character, courage, backbone, integrity and compassion because of their perseverance through the challenges of life.

Actually, according to Christian theology, our "job" has nothing to do with these problems, and the eternal reward is a world utterly devoid of problems.

Good thing I don't subscribe to such a naive belief... for a while, I thought maybe you did...

They could spend their time complaining about their problems, but that only leads to bitterness and hardness of heart.

Stick around -- you'll see plenty of people complaining about things that aren't even their problem... you should see the political forum...

My son is graduating from High School so I am well aware of what a High School student is expected to know. Here is his transcript. This is just the classes they take at the High School. This does not include the classes he took at the University. So the bottom line here is we need to address this imbalance in what people are expected to know about science and compare that to what they are expected to know about the Bible.
Does your son approve of you posting his grades for no apparent reason in a random discussion forum?

Why are you leaving the Quran and Vedas out of this? Why single out the Bible?

There is no salvation in the Quran. Only through Jesus can we be saved. I assume that your an annihilationist and that you do not plan to enter into eternal life.

Yes, he worked hard for that 3.9 grade point average and his $30,000 merit scholarships and he is proud of what he has accomplished. Feel free to put your high school transcript up for us all to see. I would be glad to see what you accomplished in High School.

Well, that may well be what Christian Imperialism has to say on the topic. But I and many fellow Christians have sought out viable alternatives to this Imperialism and its intolerance.

OK, so, what do you want me to do? Post my resume, transcripts, writing sample, sample syllabus, cover letter, and three letters of reference? Should I also post reviews of my published works? I mean why stick with just high school. C'mon. Please stay on topic. The biggest problem here I have here with credentials is that so many members feel they can outsmart all these scientists, yet they have no real scientific training or credentials. The same is also true in areas related to theology and biblical studies.

That is what you expect me to do so we should all play on a level playing ground.

No. I don't post personal information needlessly around the internet. I'm sure your son understands the reason for that being into computers and programming and all.

Yes he does. My sister in law, who happens to be an attorney said to remove any identification information: Name address school and so on.

I took a computer programming course at Harvard once, does that qualify me for anything?

Perhaps it was a test for both the victims and the perpetrators, and for everyone else who either had some personal experience with it or learned about it later. Yeah, God allows people to be hurt, because it's the only way that free will really can be free.

It's terrible the way we treat one another at times, but we keep doing it, don't we? Despite all the various genocides throughout history, more will come. Terrible governments are made up of and supported by ordinary people.

Instead of blaming God for the terrible choices of people around us, perhaps we should start making some choices of our own to start dealing with those problems.

Well, if you believe we shouldn't blame God, then why are you trying to do so and rationalize all suffering as some kind of s test by what would appear to be a very sadistic God?

Yes but this is not the forum to talk about that. According to the rules: "Unorthodox, non-Nicene Christian theology may only be discussed in the Controversial Theology forum."

Because you brought it up. I am only responding to the messages addressed to me. I write one post then I spend the next five days responding to the comments that people make about that post.
