O Holy Night by Carrie Underwood.
I'll Fly Away.
That is one of my favorite old hymns; and I thought I would look it up for you and others and boy did I find a lot of copies of it; it's said to be the most copied song of all time. There are so many I thought at first I would find the most popular; but there are so many that were popular over the years; Johnny Cash came to mind from years ago when mom & dad used to listen to him:
My favorite version of I'll Fly Away is done by Jars of Clay.
It was one of my grandmother's favorite hymns -- we even sung it at her funeral.
I certainly would not consider it a hymn. It is gospel (black or urban gospel, NOT southern gospel). Here is a little test; would this song be considered a hymn?
Contemporary worship, Not a hymn.My Life is in You Lord!

That falls into a rare genre called "Gospel Hymns" that were southern gospel from the early 20th century. That is some of the church music I grew up with."I'll Fly Away"

Not necessarily old, but it must have a classical structure and feel.To you; does a hymn have to be old music?
