  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Fish who won't evolve.

You can believe whatever you wish.
But beliefs do not necessarily reflect reality.

And your emotional need to be more then "just" your brain or your body have no effect on reality either.

The fact of the matter is, that your brain IS you, as is shown every day in neuroscience.
The evidence suggest that what people call the "mind" or the "soul" is actually the neural network in the material brain.

There is no evidence to suggest otherwise.

When you tell your mother you love her, you say its just a chemical or electrical response, and nothing more to it than that. Do you actually believe that?

No, that's just your dishonest representation of what is being said here.

The origins of X doesn't change the reality of X.

Love is what it is, regardless of how it manifests in humans.

I call Poe.

I'm done.

You are not having an honest and open discussion here.

Have fun further ignoring everything that is being said.

I haven't ignored the fact that you said science has discovered that there is no soul, and therefore we are all robots controlled by random brain processes.

More dishonesty. I never said that.

, and therefore we are all robots controlled by random brain processes.

Never said that either.

Maybe you should start responding to what people actually say.

Why am I even replying............

Why must a thing be JUST the sum of its components?

The greatest of ironies exist among Atheists and scientists, who campaign for evolution, but cannot even conceive evolving themselves or ascending to anything higher than their best organic self.

Nonetheless, they end up here, here at the edge of their physical world gazing shoreward, not knowing there is more than a world above their own, but also waters above and beyond. These are fish out of water, and their instinct is to wiggle and fight and return to the sea...and why wouldn't they? Their eyes cannot see above, even in the air, let alone the waters above.

For most of us, it was fishers of men that lured us in. Some were born flying fish. Some didn't wait to be caught, but jumped in the boat. But the fish analogy only goes so far to explain, that like the waters below, there is also waters above, that great reef in the sky.

But how do you tell a fish that will not evolve about dry land, or prove what is dry...while immersed? How do you tell a landlocked fish about other waters, when they cannot and will not come out of the water?

Treating them like deadbeat couch potatoes isn't working. Any ideas?

PS, Greeting them with open arms isn't really working either. Isaiah 65:2
There is a good story on this from Jesus in the Urantia revelation when he was in Rome serving as a caravan tutor for the teenage son of an Indian business man.

TRIPS ABOUT ROME

Jesus, Gonod, and Ganid made five trips away from Rome to points of interest in the surrounding territory. On their visit to the northern Italian lakes Jesus had the long talk with Ganid concerning the impossibility of teaching a man about God if the man does not desire to know God. They had casually met a thoughtless pagan while on their journey up to the lakes, and Ganid was surprised that Jesus did not follow out his usual practice of enlisting the man in conversation which would naturally lead up to the discussion of spiritual questions. When Ganid asked his teacher why he evinced so little interest in this pagan, Jesus answered:

132:7.2 “Ganid, the man was not hungry for truth. He was not dissatisfied with himself. He was not ready to ask for help, and the eyes of his mind were not open to receive light for the soul. That man was not ripe for the harvest of salvation; he must be allowed more time for the trials and difficulties of life to prepare him for the reception of wisdom and higher learning. Or, if we could have him live with us, we might by our lives show him the Father in heaven, and thus would he become so attracted by our lives as sons of God that he would be constrained to inquire about our Father. You cannot reveal God to those who do not seek for him; you cannot lead unwilling souls into the joys of salvation. Man must become hungry for truth as a result of the experiences of living, or he must desire to know God as the result of contact with the lives of those who are acquainted with the divine Father before another human being can act as the means of leading such a fellow mortal to the Father in heaven. If we know God, our real business on earth is so to live as to permit the Father to reveal himself in our lives, and thus will all God-seeking persons see the Father and ask for our help in finding out more about the God who in this manner finds expression in our lives.” UB 1955

I believe my existence as an individual and an intellectual being, are worthy of a more than such elementary observation.

Elementary. Yep that's exactly what it is. It isn't like we're talking about neuroscience here.

You act as if emotions coming from the normal workings of a human brain are somehow insufficient for, well, I'm not sure what. Can you explain your point?

Just a few generations are required. Stickleback fish in Alaska evolved from living in seawater to freshwater in just 50 years.

But that's a change in their ability to live in certain areas, Lizards do that in a matter of a week iirc. But growing legs and the need for legs will take much much much much much much much much much longer than 50 years.

Life moves quickly as we get older, decades seem like yesterday. Its all downhill at some point. Then we realize how short it actually is.
That's where religion comes in to ease our fears. It's a great tool. I don't buy any of it but I'll admit it is comforting.

Woo...

So if people don't find god it's their fault...has nothing to do with the problem of god not existing lol. It's funny how many times that theme pops up...it's as if they know they're selling a story and some people simply won't buy it.
