  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Why don't protestants bless Mary?

I keep reading responses that assume Sacred Scripture is the total of Divine Revelation. Considering that Sacred Scripture says no such thing, it must be a man made rule....go figure.

Back to scripture.... at Cana Mary asked her Son to begin His march towards the Cross. What other mother would do this? Immediatety, Jesus calls her Woman. Which Woman, we are told it is a reference to the Woman from Genisis. Now, if you recall there would be emnity between the Woman and the serpent. This does not assume a passive relationship. So, there we have in scripture Mary's active role battling against Satan.

So Mary has a unique role in Salvation history. As we know, Satan doesn't win. Mary would be someone good to have on your side.

Amen to that! I could never find Christ without Mary, my spiritual Mother. And I know some don't like it that I quote 2 Thessalonians 2:15, but I wouldn't need to do so if it were accepted.

I know that people might not understand the Church's veneration of Mary, the Mother of Jesus Christ our God, as the highest of God's creatures. But I think that we should try to be substantive and civil.

This thread was designed to goad non-worshippers of Mary and you know it.

How have I goaded you? I believe that Mary is a creature, not God. She is the Mother of God. I think that both Protestants and Catholics have failed to honor her enough.

Take another look at the title of the thread.
Clearly not to edify Mary idolizers, but rather to draw protestants into an arguement.
If you will take a close look at how the OP responds to posts you will see that a protestant simply cannot respond in a way that pleases her. She has defined a very narrow gate that makes satisfying her contempt for protestants imposible.
But if a responce becomes too much for her she runs and hides. Either way she plays the victom.
Very cleverly crafted.

So, do you think Christ intended the Church to become a religious bureaucracy headquartered in Rome?

I think that Christ intended the Church to become a full developed organization centered in the the Successors of Rock, the Vicars of Christ, who are the Bishops of Rome.

From Christ, who taught orally.

This is something you could make up about anything. 4 Gospels written concerning the actions and words of Christ, and yet you claim He taught something that wasn't recorded in any of those Gospels. So why not say Christ taught other things as well and then claim that we have to follow oral tradition concerning it?

Mary is a creature who did give birth to God the Son, by virtue of the Incarnation. Jesus has two natures united in one Person (Catholic Council of Chalcedon)

2 natures? That's like saying he's two-faced. So, what did this precious council make up about Christ concerning this? (Disclaimer: I actually don't care. Scripture means more to me than some group making up man-made traditions.)

Most Protestants accept the idea that Christ is both fully human and fully Divine, so that One Person has two natures. (That is why Mary is the Mother of God).
Although the Scriptures don't explicitly say this. This was defined by the early Catholic Church at Chalcedon, under the strong leadership of Pope Leo the Great's delegates.

As far as following oral tradition, we must do so if we are to agree with Scripture, which says to hold fast to the traditions, whether given orally or by letter. And which say that the words that the Father gave Christ were given to the Apostles.

And Scripture itself tells us that Mary conceived Jesus Christ (Luke 1:31), who is our Lord and God (John 20:28)

Haha.....you responded exactly the way I thought. So what does your preacher teacher about the wedding feast at Cana?

It's not twisted. Eve listened to a fallen angel, disobeyed God, and became the cause of our death. Mary, the New Eve, listened to the good angel, obeyed God, and because the cause of our life.

So you believe everything the CC says, would that be correct?
