I registered for the winter quarter a while ago and am now considering reworking my schedule. I'm curious to know what classes you'll be taking next term. What's your major? Also, what's your daily schedule like, and does it take you a while to acclimate to it when the term begins? This past quarter I didn't have any classes on Monday, and it was fantastic to be able to use that time to get so much done.

My major is Psychology. I'm on scholastic probation right now since I failed a class, so I'll only be taking two classes. A required class called Learning Framework, and then Psychology. Classes are just Tuesdays and Thursdays for me so I won't get too busy.

I'm double majoring in psychology and writing. I recently decided to revamp my schedule, and now I'm waitlisted for three courses and everything is up in the air. Good life choices :p

This is how I'm hoping/assuming it'll look like: advanced biopsych, microeconomics, social cognition, and sociology of mass media and pop culture (or maybe ANTH 100 instead).

This'll be perhaps my first term with a fairly normal schedule. I'll be at school every day but will usually be off by 3:30. Normally I don't take long to adjust to new schedules, but this last term I only had to be at school three days a week and I'm expecting to find it a little disheartening to have to leave the house an extra two days :p

2. Web Application Development
3. Probability Theory
4. Cryptology
5. Relativity, Electrodynamics & Quantum Mechanics

I'm taking this required personal finance class & Spanish 2 online.

Our class schedule changes around cause we have a block schedule. It starts at 8:40 & ends at 4 every day.

What classes do you think you'll take, Ella?

Uuuuugggghhhh Ochem was awful. I'm so sorry.

My major classes next semester are Kinetics, Computational Engineering, lab, and Engineering Methodology and Design.
I'm also taking two gen eds, which I had none of last semester. So it'll be nice to have some unrelated classes to mix it up. I'm taking introduction to drawing and Judo I. I'm really looking forward to the Judo class.

Engineering Methodology & Design sounds like it would be interesting. I am thinking of maybe majoring in engineering of some kind. Idk yet. We've got a lot of engineers in the family & they have cool jobs. I am interested in other stuff too so we'll see. I just don't want anything w a lot of writing, lol. What are your gen ed classes? I want to take judo sometime. That sounds like a lotta fun.

Engineering's an interesting (and broad) field. Choosing what you want to major in is exciting
Drawing and Judo are the gen eds I'm taking. My school requires phys ed credits -.-

How long for the Phys Ed requirement. The trend was that such was disappearing. In my college days it was Freshman year only so I managed to only have a 'regular' PE class for Spring Quarter. And that was the Red Cross Water Safety Instructor class (the one that qualifies one to teach pretty much all the Red Cross water classes). Fall and Winter were Water Polo and Swimming. One lousy unit for a 2 hour workout every day that would kill half of the people on campus! Plus game and meet time of course.

Yeah phys ed requirements don't seem to be very common anymore. None of my friends who go to other schools have to take gym except for one. Oh well, all I can do now is look forward to the challenge. We have to take a total of 3 credits. Most classes are 1.5 but there are a few really intense ones that are 3. Those are for people that put them off until senior year and have no other choice, hahaha
I've actually wanted to learn how to play Water Polo for a few years now but my school doesn't offer it :sigh:

I have not heard of any schools that had water polo as a class. As a varsity sport, yes, but not a class. It is a hard one to teach because it requires a base level of swimming ability that few have.

I don't think colleges should require PE! My HS requires PE but that's like a state requirement I think. The cool thing is that we can take our classes at GMU & earn college credit too. There's some really fun classes that they have so I'm kinda looking forward to taking them this summer.

I agree, I think having to take PE in college is pretty lame. But I probably shouldn't complain too much because I honestly am looking forward to this Judo class :sayan:

That's pretty cool; can you take any gym classes at GMU or just the summer ones? I will say that college PE is infinitely better than regular high school gym.

I don't know if I'm qualified to talk about regular High School PE classes. I went out for football for 2 years as much to stay out of regular PE classes.

I'm torn on the idea of required college PE classes. I sort of like the change in goals that some schools shifted to starting in the 1970s. That was to try to get students to try things that might lead to lifetime interests. In that context I support sort of mandatory classes for a couple of quarters or semesters. I say sort of because there should be a way to petition out based on outside activities. The crowd I ran with in college sure didn't need any mandatory PE classes. They (and I) ended up playing intra-mural sports and also club sports. There is nothing like centering a line in ice hockey when you can barely skate.

It's very surprising to me that there are universities that require PE classes. If the studies were in related to physical fitness, physical therapy perhaps, then yes that would be more reasonable. In Sweden we don't have the "general education" requirements, as universities in America do. You immediately begin your studies, in your degree programme. All of your classes relate to the degree. I in medical school. We do have classes that are available, for exercise, and recreation. It's not a part of the school transcript. Swedish citizens do not have to pay for tuition. I know tuition is quite steep, at many colleges in America. Are the PE classes required, as a way of making money? The teachers for those courses, likely wouldn't earn as high of a salary as someone in a subject that touch many years to master, I would think.

I agree that that would probably be a more sensible way to go about college PE. I too support the idea of learning a life-long activity, but people that play sports on the side (not me) should be exempt.

I have noticed from my (shamefully limited) knowledge of education around the world that European Universities seem to be more degree-focused than American schools. I imagine both styles of curricula have their positives and negatives hahaha

We can take gym classes at GMU during the school year as well, but I couldn't fit them into my schedule. I think it will be more fun to take them in the summer anyway cause that's when they have most of the outdoor classes. I want to take whitewater kayaking & scuba diving this summer! :D

I go to an online school but we're still required to take four semesters of PE, lol. I think it's also a state requirement, even though many of us don't live in the state where the school is based. What we do is keep an activity log and submit it every month, along with watching some videos about physical fitness. If you play a sport or dance or something, you just get your coach or teacher to sign this form for you and that counts.

Owning and regularly using a kayak is my dream, for real. Scuba diving would also be awesome. You can't go wrong with either of those
