• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where are the young earthers.....

Islamic creationism is big business in Turkey:
Harun Yahya

You'll find his attention to detail and honesty about evidence very familiar if you've ever looked closely at Christian YEC entrepreneurs.

How old is the earth?
The term "young earthers" in the thread title refers to people who believe that the Book of Genesis describes the literal events of the beginning of the Earth and humanity some time between 6 and 10 thousand years ago.

Typically this will mean that the people are some variety of Jew, Christian or Muslim.

If you were unaware of the current scientific consensus on the age of the Earth, it is around 4.5 billion years old.

In science, "the consensus" is Truth.

In science, "the consensus" is Truth.

Nothing in science is considered proven so 'truth' is an ambiguous concept in this context.

Consistent with the evidence is as good a version of true as you are going to get. Any other definition always falls back to believing the private thoughts of individual humans.

The only truth in science is that truth does not exist. O wait, I left out a word. The only absolute truth in science is that absolute truth does not exist. Only you pretty much have to have a PhD before you reach the point that you believe this is true.

Are you absolutely sure your statement is true?

Young Earthers are often based on a misunderstanding of Bishop Ushers book. There actually is no problem with his book and there is no conflict between his book and science. Because his book for the most part is based the history of the last 6,000 years. So there is NO problem with being a YEC because they are only talking about the last 6,000 years. They have nothing to say about anything that takes place before that point in time.

My brother has a PhD in Psychology and he is absolutely sure that this statement is true. That does create a contradiction if you have to be absolutely sure that the only absolute truth is that there is no absolute truth. He is a Buddhist so they like to play with this stuff.

Regardless of what kind of desolation/reconstruction OEC you subscribe to I think Usher believed in a literal Adam and Eve about 6000 years ago and that all of humanity is descended from them.

This is completely unsupported by evidence. The genetic diversity of humans won't allow for such a recent bottleneck.

(Unless you believe that Adam and Eve were not the only humans alive then?)

At the time that was a popular belief. The irony is that Bishop Ushers book is a very accurate genealogy of the Hebrew people and the Bible is very clear that the gentiles are not descended from Abraham. That is why the non Hebrew people are adopted into the family of God.

17 But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree,18 do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you.…Rom11

Is this the same Yahha that says: “Underneath its scientific façade it is a
materialist worldview that Darwinists are trying to impose on
society.”
