Why doesn't railroad tracks and oil pipes and cellphone towers take into account spherical earth?

Yep, and if you just accept everything that you are told as if it was God's word.... which are you?

I would hope I would have enough brain cells to research and draw conclusions, and be WILLING to accept those conclusions no matter what my "opinion" on the matter was. Fortunately, I was not raised in a fundamentalist home, in reality, we were more culturally Catholic than deeply religious...so I was given the freedom to research on my own.

I do not understand this constant desire to refute anything that is proven scientifically or by photo evidence based on something written by people from an ancient civilization that are trying to understand the world around them. The earth is not flat, there was not a 6 day creation 6000 years ago, evolution is a well understood scientific thesis, and the people who deny all this are laughable...

Never change Jack. Never change.

From; http://www.noonsite.com/Countries/Antarctica?rc=Formalities

Any vessel intending to visit Antarctica must obtain written permission from its national authority responsible for the implementation of the Antarctic Treaty and Protocol.

British vessels are not supposed to sail into Antarctic waters without permission from the relevant department in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Penalties are very severe if this ruling is not observed.

What are they hiding?!?!?!

Nothing! You people make me laugh...so suspicious. You take an ancient book at face value but don't take any scientific studies on face value...methinks y'all are confused.

It's really not very hard to get permission.

Also, not every country signed that treaty. And yet, none of the non-signers have come out saying the Earth is flat.

You are correct, liquids and gasses behave in similar ways in many situations.

I am not sure, however, if a liquid or gas would remain intact in a vacuum like space with zero gravity and total vacuum.

Would they not just disperse and disappear? Would they not need a body of some mass to create a gravitational force large enough to hold them there?

Well that depends on a couple of things. For example, how much gas are we talking about? If we are merely talking about an amount equal to the atmosphere of earth, sure, it would disperse if it were up in space. But if we are talking about enough gas to have mass as much as the sun, then its own gravity would hold it together.

Well, see, that's just it. You really need to research before you make a statement like that. The "flat earth" crowd believe that the edge is the Antarctic region which circumvents the plate shaped flat earth. There is a mile high wall of ice that basically holds all the oceans in. So, you cannot just keep walking until you reach the edge. You would have to get on a ship or plane, go to Antarctica and then keep walking south.

If they've never seen it, how do they know it's a mile high wall of ice?

There in lies the rub, as they say. This is because YOU and I or anyone else for that matter is forbidden from doing such a thing. You will need special permission just to go there and then you will be restricted as to what you can do and where you can go and how far.

If you can get permission, by definitiom you're not 'forbidden'. And where does it say that there's a restriction on how far you can go?

Also, not every country signed that treaty.

Do you not find that a bit fishy? Ask yourself, what did Admiral Byrd find when he tried to go to the south pole? He cut his mission short, rushed back and all of a sudden there is a treaty of 12 nations that control the Antarctic area.

Admiral Byrd DIED in 1957. The treaty was made in 1961. His expeditions were over a decade earlier. Also, he wasn't the first to reach both poles.

I think you're a bit off.

Just check around. There is lots of information on operation High Jump, Deep Freeze. etc.

Sorry, forbidden might be the wrong word. However, you must apply and then your actions are controlled and limited.

My point was that it's not like England, Canada, USA, or Europe where you get a passport, a back pack and wander wherever you want, charter a plane and fly to the south pole....... It's protected and controlled.

Also, not every country signed that treaty.

I don't recall saying every country signed it. It started with 12 and is now at around 28 countries. Also, it was signed in 1959, originally.

You are correct, except about the date of the treaty. My point was that it was due to Admiral Byrd's exploration and research that this all came about. They did not just find an big Island of ice and snow.

Byrd reported that there was a wealth of natural resources there. Enough to support the world for years.

Tell me why is it that there is absolutely no mining or oil drilling ore exploration done at all after almost 60 years?

Is it because they are so worried about the environment down there? When has that ever stopped them before?

How would Amundsen prove he was actually at the south pole. Byrd went to the north pole but there is still controversy as to whether he actually even got there. These guys could have wandered around for weeks and then just came back with some pictures. It's not like they could show the track on a GPS or pick up a souvenir.

If the goal is to limit access to the south pole, they are failing miserably.

I'm not doing your (or flat earthers) work for you.

Sorry, forbidden might be the wrong word. However, you must apply and then your actions are controlled and limited.

Where does it say your actions are controlled and limited? By whom?

My point was that it's not like England, Canada, USA, or Europe where you get a passport, a back pack and wander wherever you want, charter a plane and fly to the south pole....... It's protected and controlled.

By whom? How? Also, you do realize the process of getting permission only applies if you're a citizen of a country that actually signed the treaty. If not, you're not under any restriction.

I don't recall saying every country signed it. It started with 12 and is now at around 28 countries. Also, it was signed in 1959, originally.
It was open for signature at that time. It didn't actually start being enforced until 1961, so that's the relevant date.

Byrd reported that there was a wealth of natural resources there. Enough to support the world for years.

Source? I can't find anywhere were he said that?

Tell me why is it that there is absolutely no mining or oil drilling ore exploration done at all after almost 60 years?

It might have a little something to do with the extreme costs and risks of maintaining such an installation in one of the most dangerous environments on the planet.

Is it because they are so worried about the environment down there? When has that ever stopped them before?

All the time.

Ignoring that you haven't provided any evidence he said it in the first place, why are you willing to take Byrd at his word when he said their were riches in the north pole, but you think it's possible Admunsen was faking?
