Ah yes. Believe it or not (unless this is what you are already implying) there indeed is a belief that the demons are frenzied leading up to Lent. Here is a thread from Monachos.net from 2009 of this observable phenomenon:

Pre-Lenten Stress (PLS) - Fasting - Monachos.net Discussion Community
Thanks for the link. I'm interested to check it out.

And that was exactly what I was implying. I've only watched a few fasts so far, but I admit I have been taken aback at times by the - eruptions - of behavior between Orthodox Christians, and usually targeting other Orthodox Christians. It is quite out of character, so all the more noticeable. But I'm so new, I wasn't sure if I was really reading things as they are, or just reading something into it.

(I'm speaking now of interactions in general, not this thread in particular, and certainly not any persons in particular.)

Thanks again, Buzuxi. :)

All you really need to do is read the first two posts to confirm your observations. The second poster. M.C. Steenberg is Archimandrite Irenei a patristic scholar under ROCOR:

V. Revd. Prof. Archimandrite Irenei (Steenberg), BA, M.St., D.Phil. (Director; Patristics and Church History) - Sts. Cyril & Athanasius Institute for Orthodox Studies

His name has come up to me on a number of occasions here and elsewhere the past week. I may be more aware of it since I recently listened to a special of his on AFR and decided to look for more from him. But I really am surprised that he suddenly seems to be everywhere. This is a good thing, I think. :)

Not to say there's no one out there doing that, but, keep in mind, the people objecting to Starbucks cups being red for Christmas, are basing their objection on the fact that there are no snowflakes, stars, reindeer, and snowmen on the cups!

I watched one stupid video where a man gloated about telling Starbucks his name was "Merry Christmas" so they would have to say it and write it on his cup. Beyond that, nearly every single post I've read on newsfeeds and on websites has been reacting to that supposed Christian outrage. Some of the posts are Christians who, like you, find it embarrassing, and some people are using it as an excuse to make hateful remarks about Christians. But it seems to me that the reactions are making a mountain out of a very tiny molehill.

Yup just as I thought, another propaganda hit to get the secularist losers to demonize christianity.
You know as a greek diner owner lets get everyone really up and arms since our cups display the "swastika" design of Golden Dawn: We can even change the anthora cup from blue to red for greater impact:

I wonder what the reaction would be if Starbucks chose to put a symbol for Jewish holidays and nothing else. Or, I fht e put the symbols for all religions on their cup. Or worse yet, made some cups with a mennorah, some with a muslim symbol, some with a B'Hai symbol, ad nauseum. I can see the panic among some zealots of all these faiths when they are handed a cup with a symbol not of their faith.
In the end, does it not make sense in America, where people are supposedly free to practice the religion of their choice to simply acknowledge the holiday season? I've never understood why that is so offensive.

I use to enjoy what's in the coffee cup rather than focusing on the label coating the outside of the cup, but hey, that's me...

This thread is, how should I put it, hmm facinating...

My great grandmother used to do that by somehow reading how a pie was cut. I guess it's like how the ancients used bird entrails. Except with pie.

Not to derail. But my mom knows how to read ones future from their coffee cup. Is that a sin?

This is a thread with over 50 !!! posts regarding the design of Starbucks coffee cups, I think derailing it is the best thing that can happen really.

Besides I absolutely love how random your comment is aswell, ha ha.

God Bless.

. More accurate than a crystal ball. But never heard about bird entrails, I mean like after you cut them open?
Yes, reading the entrails of sacrificed animals (particularly the liver) was common the ancient Near East and Rome.

There is nothing like brightening up the hopes of a single 35 year old woman by telling her, her coffee cup stain is saying she will find love in a few weeks.:p

This thread would have been 100 posts long if you had 3 greeks and 3 turks arguing over whether it should be called greek coffee or turkish coffee

I have a question: Does anyone actually personally know another Christian who really has their panties in a twist about this cup thing? This week in particular I've noticed a real increase in the two prong attack on Christians/Christianity promoting the believe that people of faith are 1) stupid, 2) bad.

Besides this silly cup story - there's also a story in the news about some nut saying we need to repent of watching Harry Potter movies, and another one saying children of Christians are lacking in empathy. Yet, when I stop and think about it - I can't think of one Christian who actually cares about the cup thing. I am coming to believe that the story is a complete fabrication, or the guy who made the original YouTube video made it specifically so there could be a news story about it to make Christians look bad. The Harry Potter story - more of the same. Christians lacking in empathy? Seriously? Go out and find me a homeless shelter that isn't run by some variety of Christian.

Who is benefiting from promoting and repeating these stores? Not us. No, this is all a pre-cursor of things to come. Society needs to believe we are bad/stupid/insert some other bad thing here - before they can start really persecuting us.
