  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What's on your mind?

lol Can I help it that I grew up dirt poor and in a family that had to make 95% of everything we used? lol "Eatin out" was a loaf of store bought bread and some pre-sliced bologna. Seriously, I can count on one hand the number of times I had "fast food" before the age of 10. Most of what we ate was home grown and made from scratch.

When we ran out of store bought flour, we would go out and gather acorns, nuts, seeds, pretty much anything we could make into flour. Acorns require a bit of processing first, to get rid of the tannin. Not only is it bitter, but too much is poisonous. After we had gathered enough...

We would crack, then soak the acorns in fresh, clean water. This leeches out the tannin. Use only firm acorns, without bug holes. Discard any that float. Taste test them for bitterness. This may require many soakings. Once there is zero bitterness, grind them further and then boil the "grits". Now, you can discard the liquid, or skim the top and remove the acorn oil that rises to the top. You then drain the acorns, run them through a mill until it is a paste. You can either sun dry this paste or put it in an oven. Once it is dry, you can pound the dried paste into flour.

Its a lot of work.

Well, that settles it. When the grid finally goes down for good I want to be in your survival camp. :D ;)

Anyway, you were better off not having fast food and whatnot growing up. Home grown is where it's at.

Well, that makes you and Toro. But, unfortunately, you eat whatever you can in a survival situation. That includes squirrel, rabbit, birds, fish, deer, bear, snake, turtle...basically anything you can catch or kill. I know you don't like to eat meat, but if that is all there is...

Interesting. Out of that list, I've only had fish, deer, and bear (and some birds), lol. :D But in a survival situation, I imagine I'd eat most anything.

Ive eaten everything I listed, and some I didn't list, at some point in my life. You'd be amazed at what you will eat if youre hungry enough. I could make a list of edible plants, but many are only viable during certain times of the year. If eaten out of season, or prepared incorrectly, they can be toxic.

We've really been blessed with good weather these past 2 weeks.

Lol, this sounds like me. It's pretty sad when the weather is so unpredictable where you live that you're glad of a measly 2 weeks of calm. ^_^

FTR, the weather has been beautiful here, too. A bit too cool for me, but no rain and no clouds.

OK nearly nearly finished my social policy essay *yay* it's due in next Friday.

I have a choice of going to the Christian society at uni or the women's feminist group tomorrow night, I don't know which one too choice.

I can see the benefit of this. I can't see the benefit of the other.

So I guess I'd recommend the society one :)

Don't underestimate me. I'm ready and willing to do whatever in order to survive. ;)
