The obvious conclusion of the debate over guns and violence arising from the Oregon shooting is that nothing new will be done to restrict gun rights. Regardless of the emotion driven calls for some undefined new rules, cooler heads will have prevailed as in similar past events.

This is as it should be. If we cannot have a reasonable, intelligent, fact driven discussion about guns it's best to have none at all.

I'm not surprised, to be honest It seems like Conservatives complain the most. That the liberals are going to make more gun control.

I would think lawmakers are just tired of the debate, which arises with each incident. What has changed is that overall gun violence is already declining without new laws.

What debate? There's some hand wringing on one side and a couple of "Don't discuss this after people are killed by guns!" on the other and then it's back to business as usual with (to quote my dad): "After everything is said and done, there's more said then done.".

When you put it that way, these mass shootings are practically cause for celebration: gun owners win by default!

See you until the next killing!

Anyone wanna place any bets?

I'll place a bet....
My bet is that when another person decides they want to die and take as many people with them as possible and then go to a "gun free zone" to do just that, the liberal politicians and news personalities will blame the gun owning and law abiding citizens for wanting to retain the freedoms they now have, rather than give them up in order to satisfy those who want to take away those freedoms out of an emotional response to "do something".

I agree. We should do nothing. Those victims had it coming for not owning/using a firearm to protect themselves. I spit at weak victims. They were not Real Americans.

If you want to do something, then do something constructive. Do something useful that doesn't take away from those who had nothing to do with what happened and does nothing to solve the problem, but only soothes your emotions. But that's not what the liberals talk about. It doesn't seem to matter to them whether it's something good or bad, constructive or destructive. Just as long as it's something.

Well stated.

We can call it a debate, when lawmakers start debating it on the house and senate floor.

Now, go get more coffee.

That's more-or-less exactly what I said. I have exorcised my petty human emotional response to mass killings, and as such, have come to the clearly superior conclusion that we should do nothing. Nothing constructive. Nothing emotional. Victims are weak. It's their own fault for not buying the little bundle of joy that is a firearm. Everybody should not only own a firearm, but the automatic rifle type. Y'know M-16s or AK-47s. And sniper rifles! So we can shoot mass murderers from a mile away! That's the problem with victims.

Obviously, your point of view is the opposite of what I said. Compared to what I said (Do something constructive), you say the opposite (You said "Nothing constructive"). The rest of your statement is simply an attempt at baiting.

I don't know. I think we're both on the same track. I have suggested nothing productive, and you have suggested nothing constructive. You said we should do "something", but when other people have suggested "something" you have turned it down, and offered nothing. That's precisely what I have said.

Now you're lying about what I said. Meanwhile your claims of what you said are not present in your posts:

Continue baiting all you want. It's obvious to anyone with logic on their side.

Do you have any suggestions what should be done, Aldebaran? If you don't think that nothing should be done.

Yeah, allow those who wish to be armed for defense to do so. Not so complicated, is it?

Actually many States are endorsing just that, especially up in New England (now that is ironic).
