For those of you who do not believe in God, I have shown that it's true that you actually don't know if my truth claim that God exists, is true or not. IOW, you don't know if God exists or not and you don't know if I'm telling the truth.

I'm also claiming that it's true that I can't prove God to you and I'm also claiming that it's true that only God can prove Himself to you.

This where the ball falls in your court. Do you personally want to know if God exists or not? If not then ignore the fact that you don't know the truth. If so then start asking unique questions that challenge yourself to get to the truth.

I'm a witness to the truth, I'm not the truth itself.

It's your responsibility to ask those unique questions that sit in the back of your mind that will help you find the truth.

Actually you have the responsibility to provide evidence for your claim before you expect to be listened to.

Asking us to try to believe in your truth (even though you deny the very methods used to establish something as true) BEFORE we are allowed or able to see whether or not it is true or why is psychological trickery that only works on freshmen jedi knights.

If your special pleading fallacy undermines its own arguments it's stupid. You're trying to provide evidence for why you dont need evidence

As we are in a forum intended for the critical examination of the rational grounds of our most fundamental beliefs, rather than proselytizing, can you provide the reason why you believe this?

I'll assume rebuttal questions will be:

Why should there be a reason for everything?

Why should there be a reason for existence?

Why should there be a reason that the universe exists?

Why should there be a reason that I exist?

A simple answer to these questions is that one wouldn't ask a question unless one had a reason to ask, thus supporting the idea that there is a reason behind everything, even the very questions one asks.

Thoughts?

By "reason", do you mean "a higher power created for a reason"?

My curiosity about this thread does no imply that there is a "reason" for the universe to exist, other than natural forces operating.

Your deity - assuming that it exists as described by many on these forums - 'loves' us so much that if we do not come to believe in its existence before we die it will torture us for all of eternity. I question whether this is the kind of thing that people mean when they talk about love.

Yes, and there´s no reason not to. And in the post (from a completely different thread, where I answered the philosophical question of a mature person) you are referring to I explained that, how and why I do it and can´t helping doing it.
If you want to discuss this with me, feel free to respond over in that thread.
However, if you insist on discussing it here in this thread (even though it´s way off-topic), that´s ok, too. Quote what I said, and address it. I will respond.

Honestly though, Chiliman could be a case study for "how the mind clings to belief". You could literally go through all of his posts in the philosophy section and watch as his tactics change over and over again in an attempt to rationalize his belief.

That's evolution for you. Sometimes the forces of evolution work on belief systems themselves, there is a reason Christianity has lasted as long as it has and that reason is not baby Jesus.

Gotta say that, from a psychological pov, I find the internet persona "anomymous poster" (displaying many facets, going through developments, having a certain flexibility) much more interesting than the internet persona "Chriliman" (which seems to be totally entrapped in his very special reality, to the point of actually not even interacting with or reacting to his environment and the characters around him).

It is His love for you that allows for your freedom to question His love.
