What's the point of holding beliefs you can't logically defend?

If all atheism went away, I'd still have reasons for believing in God.

If all theists went away, atheists would have no reason to think they're defending their atheistic beliefs anymore.

Yes I know you claim atheism is not a belief, but that claim does nothing to explain why you're here defending atheism.

If you did remove the very idea of skepticism, what wouldn't you believe in?

Atheism is a lack of belief. If there weren't Bigfoot believers, we wouldn't have to be skeptical of Bigfoot. If there wasn't UFO believers, we wouldn't have to be skeptical of UFO's. Atheism is skepticism at its very foundation. It is NOT believing someone that forms the basis of atheism. Theists have been incapable of producing evidence for their claims, so we remain skeptical. Until the claims stop or the evidence is finally produced, we will continue to be skeptical.
Yes I know you claim atheism is not a belief, but that claim does nothing to explain why you're here defending atheism.

We are defending our position that you have not produced evidence. We are being skeptics. Being a skeptic does not require belief.

But... that's... my... point... what's the point of hold onto a belief that you, Chrilliman, can't logically defend?

As an atheist, I don't have to defend anything. All I can do is logically evaluate the claims of other. Either it cuts muster, or, as in your case, it doesn't.

It's fine to be a skeptic, but if that's all you are you'll miss the truth because of your skepticism.

If you're always skeptical about truth claims then what truth are you basing your skepticism on?

If you don't believe I'm genuinely trying to tell you the truth then that's fine, go find truth somewhere else, why stay here?

I appreciate your sincerity, I really do. The world needs more genuine and sincere people. But it's necessary to keep your beliefs in check, or you'll end up with an untenable position. Which is why demonstrable, objective evidence will trump personal experience, every time. How else does one ensure they're not being deceived?

I (and others) have tried to point out the illogical premises in your syllogisms, but either you ignore or don't understand why they're fallacious. This should be of concern to you (if you genuinely want to learn).

ETA: Oh, why I'm here. I like the art of disputation. I'm equally excited when someone points out my fallacious reasoning, as I am when I point out theirs.

Yeah the truth according to ana who is deluded into thinking that because she says it is the truth it must be the truth. It is obvious you think that things are what you want them to be rather than what they actually are.

Oh no...you're wrong again!

When I refer to the truth, I'm talking about something that can be proven, or demonstrated. Basically, it's the opposite of what you mean by "truth".

What's it? Let out all what?

It is whatever you judge to be worthy of mentioning regards to me.

Let it all out. Hold nothing back. What else am I in your eyes?

Am I deluded? Am I brainwashed? Am I ignorant, superstitious, a liar, an idiot? Am I stupid? Am I evil?

What am I in you eyes? What is your judgment of me.

I want you and everyone else here who has something they need to say to me or about me to feel free to do so either here or privately in a conversation so that there will be nothing that remains hidden that will be brought up at some later date in either this discussion or another that will cause you to feel like I am not someone you can talk to.

I disagree with them and have elaborated as to why.

But that is not really important to me. What is important to me is that I offer you and anyone else that will avail themselves of it, to call me what you will, say what you will and get it all out of your system. I won't be offended and you all can relieve some of that built up anger and stress.

I find it interesting you state it is about; "getting it out of your system", like you are the victim of some attack.

You post, people make observations about your posts, others post, you make observations about their posts, that is the way this works. Some can take disagreement in stride, some can't.

And I'm sorry, but relying on what some theists do and claiming non believers are angry and this is why they disagree, is just weak, real weak.

See, that's it!

Let it all out. I'm in error. That's a good one.

Anything else? Anyone?

I'm deceitful, in error, deceptive and.....

My mom pulls this same martyr-deflection thing when she's caught. She has borderline personality disorder though.

It used to bother me. Now it's pretty transparent. Let me just say that it's probably having the opposite effect as to what you were hoping.

Those of us who are not despondent, have found meaning in life. The question is, is there a reason for this existence in which we must have meaning to keep us from being despondent?

I want to know how you can believe something that I think is silly.

^ Honesty

Someday you may know. If you hold your current position you'll never know because your current position is that when you die you cease to exist and the truth is never found by you personally.

Why are you here? I hope it doesn't have anything to do with ministry.

I'm here because I value love, truth, honesty and humility.

Who is despondent? be specific.

I was referring to humanity in general. Honestly not pointing fingers at anyone because none of you seem despondent. You find meaning in life and that's great!
