The former director of Norway’s Nobel Institute revealed this week that he regrets the committee’s decision to give the 2009 Nobel Peace award to President Obama.

Geil Lundestad, director at the institute for 25 years, said in his just-published memoir that he and the committee had unanimously decided to grant the award to Mr. Obama just after his election in 2009 more in hopes of aiding the American president to achieve his goals on nuclear disarmament, rather than in recognition of what Mr. Obama had already accomplished.

Hopefully the committee learned their lesson to not grant the award on what they think someone will do vs. what they have done already.

It really sounds like a Peace Prize is meaningless.

Perhaps they should plead temporary insanity.

I think even his supporters saw it as a mistake. People were deliriously happy when George Bush left office and people lost their senses. They started giving him awards for things he said he was going to do, instead of things he actually did.

It seemed weird at the time. Countless indiscriminate drone strikes later, it seems even weirder.
Well, Arafat got one too, you'll recall, so killing a bunch of people isn't necessarily an impediment, apparently.

It's always been a weird award. A couple of years ago the European Union won it. Surely that includes all citizens, making me a winner of the Nobel peace prize. I'm very modest about it; the real reward is the smiles on the faces of the children whose lives I have made more peaceful, rather than all the accolades and prizes.

....shall we count on you to stand up for peaceful solutions to world problems? Just wondering given your interest in the Nobel Peace Prize.

Seriously, President Obama has executed more people than the Spanish Inquisition. "Peace prize", LOL.

As much as I dislike our metrosexual spender in chief, I think that says more about the smallness of the Inquisition than the violence of President Urkel. People think the Spanish Inquisition was this bloody reign of terror ... it really wasn't all that violent.
