  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

No, you asked why I was asking what Martin Luther had to do with this. That is a red-herring, because I asked what his 95 Thesis had to do with this, not Martin Luther.
Would you like me to go back and place the post, of your's, I was quoting with the responce I gave when I called out the red herring or would you like to do it.

Religion is an ideal. The Church is a structure whose inhabitants have not always arisen to the standards of Christ. The church was built on Peter, but Petter died and others took his place.
What is opinion founded on? Give me credible resources. Bible passages, early church writings, something.

BUT! The Holy Spirit continued and continues to feed the church with truth and the words and teachings of Christ!

That's why the church endures, because those who are false are found out and removed. We can never know when God is testing us and what manner that test takes. It could very well be how vigilant we are of the actions of those who claim to lead us.

I will not give you Bible referances to the known history of the churches attendants, which is well documented in history books.

On judgement day, is Jesus going to judge you by your obedience to scriptures or man made traditions?

While the bible is not a play by play summary of history and is a summation of biblical events of the time, it is still a guide on how to live our lives as believers. I do agree we should not worship the bible as an idol, to the extent were we condemn others by the bible and ignore our own flaws.

Loving God is a law of God, Duet 6:5
Deuteronomy 6:5(NKJV)
5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

Loving your neighbor is a law of God, Lev 19:18
Leviticus 19:18 (NKJV)
18 You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

You can fight it all day long, but God has laws Christians are required to follow. All through out the bible God says to keep his commandments, so if you want to refer to them as laws or commandments or whatever makes you happy, you are still required to follow them as a believer, if you truly Love God.

Jesus sums all the commandments purpose into set basic principles, but he doesnt say everything is canceled out for these 2, they are just a summary.

Matthew 22:36-40 (NKJV) 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’[a] 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”

Paul shows the purpose of the commandments as well.
Galatians 5:14(NKJV) 14 For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”[a]

We gotta watch all corners because we are dealing with those governed by Satan, with his guile and deception. We can't do this alone and we can't depend on others to be diligent for our part. We are in the drivers seat of our own destiny. Jesus is our GPS and Satan is the magnet that might be pulling the compass from the dirrection we should be aiming at.

Is Jesus, on judgement day, going to say, "I showed you the way but you took another route!" "You chose to go on your own! You chose a different path!"

You see, NT shows us the way! Jesus told us who was to lead 'His' church and how it would be unbeatable but so many have thrown that to one side and decide to go it alone!!

From what I've understood on judgement day we will be judged for who we are. That encompasses many things because who we have permitted to rule over us is who we are. Christ said that a servant can only follow one master and only one master will lead you to heaven. Just because an object doesn't enforce it's will on you doesn't mean the it can't be anyone's master. Just talk to an alcoholic about alcohol and a drug addict about drugs or even a millionare about money and you can see that.

The main thing is the distraction and every day there is more and more distractions that are placed in the path of Christians and some of them placed in a certain order to break us down piece by piece until be sheer frustration we erupt and loose sight of our purpose.

Am I wrong here?

Exactly, that is why Martin Luther was excommunicated. The Holy Spirt was protecting the Church from false doctrine.

Because it does not exist. I gave multiple references and direct quotes from the Bible and early church fathers. Some of whom spoke Greek and obviously knew the exact grammatical context and culture in which the NT were written.

Maybe, maybe not. Maybe it might have been because he called out those who abuse their authority in such instances like indulgences. Whistle blowers are often fired. So much so that a law was put in place to protect them.

So satan can influence Christ?

You gave only scriptures that you attribute to meaning what you stated. Please don't tell me history isn't there because it is unfavorable to you.

I already addressed the issue of selling indulgences. Selling indulgences has never been approved by the Church, ever. That was happening at the local level by a few corrupt men. And Luther was not a 'whistle blower', don't give him that much credit. Other men were addressing this issue already. All Luther did was throw a hissy fit because reformation was not abiding by his schedule and decided to just form his own religion.

To be honest i am sure the Pope knew what was going on but turned a blind eye to it!
