  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Where is a "6000 year old earth" found in scripture?

For those who believe in it, how are those years calculated according to scripture?
Bishop Usher added all the ages up in Scripture and got the age of the earth as, then, about 6.000 years before; but he missed the age of Terah when Abraham was born and so missed the fact that Abraham and Noah were contemporaries, for Noah did not die until Abraham was 58 years old.
Terah was 70 when Abraham was born, and the first two sons of Terah were twins, Nahor and Haran.
Haran was the father of Sarai, Melchi, and Lot.
Nahor and Abraham married their brothers' daughters, and in Genesis 14, Sarai is called "Iscah" -meaning princess.
Abraham married Sarai, after her father, his brother, Haran, was burned to death "in the fires of the Kasdim", which Abraham was miraculously delivered from.
Otherwise, the time Israel was in Egypt was 210 years, calculated by adding all the years up of the ages of the Partiarchs when certain events happened.
As Paul said, the law was given 430 years after the promise, and the promise was given to Abraham in Canaan before even Ishmael or Isaac were born. 430 years after the promise, Israel departed Egypt, but had not been there but 210 years.
Abraham left Canaan and returned to Haran, where Terah dwelt, at least twice, as he also left Canaan for Egypt twice.

Genesis 47:8,9
And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou? And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.
Jacob was 130 when he entered Egypt, and the Israelites lived in grand possessions until after Joseph died.
Moses was the son of Jochebed, who is the daughter of Levi, and all the writings say she was the 70th soul who came into Egypt, but was not born til they entered, so the list of the "70 souls" in Scripture who departed for Egypt is only 69 souls, because "everyone knew" she was in the womb, and was born at the "gates of Egypt".
So Levi's grandson, Moses, was 82 when he led Israel out.
Jochebed was 128 when she bore him, and she was born when Jacob, her grandfather, was 130.
Jacob was born to Isaac are 60, and Isaac born to Abraham age 100, and Abraham was 70 when the promise was given

This is in Torah, and by doing your own research and calculations, you can discover it is true; but also, you can simplify the additions by reading the history book, the "Upright Record", otherwise known as the Book of Jasher.
The years are counted out exactly in that record from the creation until Joshua took Israel into the promised land.
And Paul, who was a scholar who read all the books, said: "the promise was 430 years before the Law".
Gal 3:17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
Stephen was a faithful witness to Jesus, but not a student of the true history that agreed with Torah, having been brought up on the myths of error of the Jews who lost their records at the burning of the temple when Babylon sacked Jerusalem, [as Peter also was a student of books of error that did not agree with Torah, but Jesus did not correct him until the event of the sheet let down from heaven, and the command to "rise and eat"...

Getting history correct does not save us, which can only happen by being born again of the Living Spirit by a revelation of Jesus to our hearts.
We dont get a download of true history to our brains when we are saved, but we can study to show ourselves approved unto God, and workmen that need not to be ashamed; and satisfy our selves as to the perfect, unbroken record given to us in the writings of the Patriarchs which are so easy to come by, these days -and that easy access sure helps to clear away the cob webs and confusion of man made myths.

What is a creation cult site?

Those who focus on the age of creation are attempting to start a cult.

You've advocated old earth creationism in the past. Have you changed your mind?

Before Adam sinned, he was immortal and lived in a "timeless" state in a
garden that had a tree of life and a tree of knowledge. God walked beside
Adam and serpents talked. These were not normal times.

"Young" and "Old" were not valid terms.

What gets 'messy' in counting up the time of the existence of this realm is not so much the early account of the years of the genealogies from Adam to Moses, but rather the years since then. It begins to get a little more difficult as we muddle through all the judges and then the kings of Israel up until Jesus first coming, to have a really accurate account of the years. But, there is plenty of extrabiblical evidence that we can then look to to confirm, within a few years, of these times.

Then we should use Darwin's estimates.
He was educated in Christianity.

Or we should choose not to use... xtrabiblical evidence
for what many feel is a critical topic.

Hi SW,

Maybe I don't understand your position. You believe that God can just say: "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds", that what He actually caused to immediately exist were seeds in the ground that 'became' grass and trees and bushes and so forth?

That when God commanded the earth to exist there wasn't any dirt because the trees and foliage hadn't yet been created that would, over years, degrade into dirt through the natural processes of organic material, which wouldn't ever happen because there wouldn't ever be any foliage to degrade unless there was foliage, but there can't be foliage because there is no dirt, but there can't be dirt because there is no foliage.

Let me ask you: When God commanded the foliage to 'be', what were the seeds or roots of that foliage in?

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted

To take the "Young Earth" position, any scientific measurements
of vegetation or rocks created during the week of Creation would
yield an age of around "Zero."

This would give us a "young" earth.

I observe in the text that the Garden (or Creation week animals) are
not set upon cooling magma, but seems to be thriving in soil.

So, according to the text, the earth is not "young."

I will not put the musings of numerologists or other monk
wannabees against the text that shows Creation week
was not scientifically set at "Zero."

The genomes would have been nearly free of mutations with a large gene pool.

God hand picked the animals needed to repopulate the world, brought
them to Noah and closed the door behind them.

Likely they were flawless.

Your dismissal of my post with the attack of my person with the your claim that "I am "fueling the efforts to create a cult", is not accepted as valid discussion and is without truth and is offensive flaming.

You did not refute one thing that I wrote and I used much fact from Scripture or else told how to discover it for onself, by labor in the Word to add it all up by deduction and laying side by side all the comments that do show that the ages and dates were well known, referred to, and can be discovered by anyone who does their own research. I also said that Scripture corroborates what is written in the history book called, "the Book of the Upright", that I gave a link to.
Search the Scriptures and lay them side by side, the ages are there, but it is hard work.

Usher did the work, but missed a point that was already written in Jasher, but which can be discovered other ways, in the Tenach, instead of straight out "in the _year of so and so, thus and so happened...."
So desist and back off with false claims and attacking me for what you refuse to refute in itself, or search out in Scripture for yourself.

Flaming is pretty specifically defined and is not
tied to one being offended.

I was referring to Bishop Usher, but if you feel guilty
then you have the option to be offended.

There are 100's of people who dismiss your posts and
never respond to what you say. You should yell at them.

I feel you have made a point worth responding to.
The opposite of dismissive. I dismiss 1000's of posts
with no comment.

Those who search and compile and calculate and use
external sources to come up with totals that change
and vary from year to year, month to month, expert
to expert.....and claim that God is telling them the
age of the earth.....are acting just like the cultists
that I've sat with face to face in discussions.

Generally, the Jehovah's Witnesses do such shenanigans
when I do bible studies with them.

To take the "Young Earth" position, any scientific measurements

yield an age of around "Zero."
Not at all.
Adam would appear to be in his twenties at least. He had an extensive vocabulary and would name all the animals brought to him.
The trees with fruit likely had rings, since they were created as they would mature also.
The grass had its roots in soil, which scientists say only comes from rocks being eroded over millions of years, but they were blooming on day three.
Light from stars millions of miles away reached the earth as soon as they were created on day four.
The waters teemed with fish which would take millions of years to evolve, yet they were there in force on day five, along with the birds of the air.
The rocks were neither molten nor radioactive, showing signs of extreme age to one who could not accept that God had just created them.

How could the earth test around zero, when zero has never existed? The autocreation of everything from nothing is a scientific absurdity, yet that's what is being taught. far from being the naturalists answer, evolution is called the only answer and no other opinion is tolerated.

The options are, believe in total lunacy or believe in the word of God and be considered a lunatic. Interesting dichotomy, no?

Yes.
The Hebrew of Genesis 1 shows that there was no land until day 3 of creation week, and that God commanded the waters below the stretched out heavens to be gathered together in one place, and for the "dry" to appear.
The "dry" was then named "earth".

The waters above the stretched out heavens were not divided from the waters below the stretched out heavens until day 2 of creation week.
The heavens were not existing above the globe of water until they were stretched out from the globe, between the waters, on day 2.

The heavens are the powers from whence the divisions of separated forces -with each a job to do, were spoken into being, just as the waters were commanded to bring forth the fowl of the air and the creatures of the waters, and as the earth -the land- was commanded to bring forth the beasts and creeping things from itself.
So the powers are brought into being from the stretched out heavens [and angels are called sons of heaven], and the fowl and sea creatures are brought into being from the waters below the heavens, and the beasts of the earth and creeping things are brought into being from the land/earth.
There was no light stretched out from the globe of water until day 2 of creation week, when the firmament was stretched out between the divided in two waters and named "heavens".
All the powers of heaven have their origin from the same created globe of water that all things are made of and out of, in the beginning.

There was no "light" stretched out until day 2, and it went out from the globe of the waters, between the divided in two waters, and the firmament is not named "two/divided waters" =Hebrew "sha-mayim" until day 2, when they were stretched out.
The light was right here, with the powers stretched out from this globe, from day 1.

Your position is exactly mine. Except that a group of "Young Earth"
creationists, who call themselves Creation Scientists claim the earth
actually shows a scientific age of a few thousand years or less.

THEY say the earth does not show any age over a few thousand years.

This would mean that scientists should be able to evaluate the earth
and find a date of "Age = zero" sometime around Creation week.

I say they are at odds with God's Word which does not date the earth.

Moses and Peter tells us that a day is 1000 years. So the 6 days of Genesis adds up to 6000 years. This works out with Geology because of the end of the ice age there was a massive extinction and a re population of the earth. So the earth was without form and void. Also the earth needed repopulated just like the Bible says.

There are 7 millennial days in this present creation.

the last Millennial Day is the Sabbath Rest for earth.
Before the last Millennial Day begins, the night comes, in which God does a "Sabbath cleansing" of the earth, and all the wicked are removed from it, for the Sabbath of its rest.
The week is closing fast, and the end is upon us!

Why no. Long before Darwin, scripture writers, the disciples and the early churches discussed all the
major tenants of Christian faith, and wrote about them from the multiple perspectives of 40 different
authors over a period of about 1,500 years. The topic of the age of the earth never came up.
What people are telling you this is critical? Would you have come up with this idea from your own reading?
Don't make the mistake of thinking others are not as well informed as you.

How can you ignore the Word of God in such statements as you espoused in saying "the topic of the age of the earth never came up!!!!!
How many times must God write His Word over and over again, for you to believe that it is His Topic, His foundation, His own story of creation in His own supernatural ways, exactly as He stated it in Genesis, and as is re-iterated by the Messiah and by many prophets!!! Why is not His Word believed by you when it is so clearly stated?
Why would men's opinions count for more with you than God's own writing?

Hi SW,

And you think the earth, on the day of its creation, was a hot molten planet. That would be odd seeing that it was encompassed with water all over. Why is it not possible that God just spoke, "Let the earth be", and there appeared a fully formed planet covered in water hanging alone in all of the universe? Why do you think that God had to make the earth from hot magma?

The 'dirt' of the earth was always there, it was just covered in water and then God parted the water so that the dry ground appeared. Fully functional dirt was now above the water and in that dirt God caused all sorts of plants to be rooted in their own and individual fully formed size, just as He did with Adam. When God said let the land be covered with vegetation apple trees appeared full of ripe fruit. Oak trees appeared that towered a hundred feet tall. Pines were also rooted in the dirt of the soil standing several dozen feet tall. Everything was made in its individual fully functioning and mature size, just as was Adam.

Just curious.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted

That's all accurate enough.
My only small change to your scenario would be that "ageing" actually occurs in God's mind
because that's how He sees things happening. Not, as others suggest, that He's trying to
deceive anyone.

So you know the mind of God, now, which somehow is from your mind, instead of from His mind; but His mind has given us His clear account in Genesis, corroborated by all Scripture!

Job believed in the millennial Sabbath for earth.
The last day is when the Messiah/Redeemer/Kinsman stands on the earth, and Job, resurrected in his own flesh, with his own eyes, will see Him.

Job 19:25 For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:

26 And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:

27 Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.

The Jewish students of the Word wrote of the Seven thousand years for earth, with the last being the Sabbath Millennium before the New Creation.
The Living Oracles which the Creator, through Moses, gave to His own namesake people to rehearse until they are all fulfilled, teach the doctrine of the millennial Sabbath in that after the seven days of Tabernacles comes that "Great Day", the "8th Day"; a Sabbath to rehearse until it is fulfilled to the last jot and tittle!

The Living Oracles also teach the end of the Adam creation multiplying the seed of the Adam creation, in the Sign of the circumcision on the "8th" day, as the sign/oracle which was given for Abraham and "His elect son", Isaac, then Jacob and his seed will rehearse until it is completely fulfilled until the last seed is born in the last day of the Last Day, the Sabbath Millennium of this present creation.
And there is so much more that anyone who has a heart for understanding what God has done and teaches through His signs and prophets can find out for themselves....

Even the 120 years God gave the Adam creation on earth had a double wisdom to them, for Noah and Methusaleh, Enoch's son, preached for 120 years, but Adam, on earth, has 120 Jubilee years from God's proclamation to the end of that Millennial Sabbath, when the sign of circumcision which is rehearsed only by the Namesake people of the New Man name will be totally fulfilled, and Adam multiplies the seed of his kind, no more, forever...

Job 11:6 And that he would shew thee the secrets of wisdom, that they are double to that which is!
