I have always found that to be an . . . . interesting comment. If I replaced the word God with Thor in that same passage, and you read it, would you become a believer in Thor? Probably not, right? If it wouldn't convince you to believe in a god you presently don't believe in, why do you think it would convince us?

Actually of all the books, in this case songs, I've found these to be very comforting even to someone who has zero faith. I often remember a colleague who when tempted by vision of pure delight (in his case a beautiful woman) would recite a passage from there.

It's also known that soldiers in some of the most horrific scenes, witnessing horrors untold would evoke the name of God -- even if it were just to say, "OH MY GOD!!!!!" (then again they were probably right : http://www.nobeliefs.com/DarkBible/darkbible3.htm )

I have even heard Christians praise the name of Thor once a week, on the 5th day of each week.

They can also make it up and falsely claim supernatural inspiration.
I highly, highly doubt that.

My wife is a secretary of a Fortune 100 company, and I can ASSURE you, if she "makes it up," she'll be working in the mail room (if she's lucky).

That's because her boss is real.

Do you think Muhammad was making it up? He didn't get fired.

Does your wife, type about things that happened 50-80 years ago, that was only passed down by verbal means and with nothing to corroborate the stories?

Yes, there's need to be some credibility to any text which was claimed to be authored directly, partly or even second, third, fourth etc. hand. Hmm?

Weren't the quotes from Paul's letters -- who contest authorship?

There needs to be even more credibility when the authorship is claimed to be supernatural.

She types what she's told to type.

In her case, it's called "dictation" or "mechanical inspiration."

God, however, used a different kind of "dictation," called "verbal plenary inspiration," in which He let His amanuenses use their own terminology and style of writing, so long as they conveyed pure Truth and the subject He wanted written.
