The most important reason is that I don't think evolution is a process devoid of intelligence.

Then why cite IC systems and a lack of known evolutionary pathways as evidence for design? Why not cite transitional fossils and known evolutionary pathways?

I am not convinced that IC systems could evolve without the aid of intelligence.

So which is it? Can they evolve or not?

However, if it can be shown in a testable, verifiable way that they were evolved they would not provide evidence for Design because it could still be a process capability that would not show the need for design as spelled out in the ID camp.

Then what would disprove design?

Evolution was intelligent. Life is intelligent. It realizes that it needs to adapt when it needs to and it pushes forward mutations in order to achieve said goals.

People seem to have this fallacious idea that consciousness has something to do with that. They come up with these scenarios where they personify things as thinking up ways to evolve.

Mmm no. Sorry, conscious thought has nothing to do with our evolution. Nothing at all. The consciousness plays a role in survival and breeding but no role in evolving. Your consciousness is linked to your autonomous action. You tell your external body to do something and it does it. You tell it to eat some berries and it does. You tell it to run away from a bear and it does. You tell to go after that woman you think can be a mate and it does. Consciousness is used to keep the body going for as long as possible because we have no evolved trait to produce food or children on our own. That's the basic functions. And when your consciousness is not on you're not dead and this brings me to my point.

The consciousness is not divine and not even that essential. The Body and your brain, yes, your brain are extremely selfish. The base function of life is sustenance and it will do whatever it takes to sustain itself. When you as the consciousness can not perform actions to keep it away from harm it will shut you down or parts of you down without hesitation. Why? Because it wants to survive and it's doing that it can. Here's a few really good example.

When you take way too much pain. Your brain is in a frenzy and doesn't know what to do. It's firing off shocks to every sensor in your body and if it doesn't receive the response it wants you will fall unconscious. The reason being is because the pain is causing too much disruption in your body and it wants the body to calm down so it can try and run damage control. You have no conscious control over this happening.

When you're in a very cold environment have you ever noticed your arms and legs get cold and numb? That's right, your body is being selfish again. What's happening is the brain wants to preserve the vital organs in your body which are in your chest and will sacrifice anything to do so. It pulls blood and blood flow away from your limbs and directs it primarily to your body.

When you fall into a coma your body cuts off the consciousness and again is running damage control.

When you drink too much the brain shuts you off because it doesn't want to be poisoned any further and it wants to give the liver time to process the alcohol.

Your brain knows everything about your body and how to fix it. You, yes you, don't know as much as your brain. You occupy a small amount of your brain, you your thoughts, your emotions, all small compared to everything else it does. And when you can't perform the necessary tasks to keep the body running the brain cuts you off and does the work for you.

And this is for most life on the planet. Their bodies are constantly collecting information based off of their surroundings and taking note. It pushes these notes to the offspring and this plays a part in mutations. There will generally be a direction they lean toward in order to increase survival chances.

These notes as I mentioned before manifest in a new mutation that will start small and gradually grow if it is seen as increasing the chance of survival in its environment.

Life is intelligent. It's random to a point but it knows what it's doing. You're not conscious of the 1000s of different things your body is doing behind the scenes inside you and even your own brain.

Your brain is doing 95% of the leg work. All you, yes you, do is make sure it has fuel to run. It'll create the hormones to attract you to a woman. Create that urge to go work out. Create that passion you have for art. Create that feeling of love. Create that desire for whatever. The 5% you control is for helping to fulfill these. Because the brain can just puppeteer you around and it isn't a plant. It also seeks pleasure. So pleasure it.

And it'll create the pain in your gut to remind you it needs fuel. And when you fail at this task it has zero problem with shutting you, yes you, down in order to take care of itself.

well that's been true up until now, but now . . . people are able to directly manipulate genes and as this goes on more and more conscious thought will begin to influence the evolutionary course of our species.
