• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This is my parish church. It's about 7 or 8 years old now. The parish is around 100 years old. Our original church, a small red brick building, is heritage listed. We could not afford to move it to our new location. It would have cost a great deal of money to do so.

I can't get a bigger photo right now. But this one gives a rough idea of what it looks like. It shows about 2/3 of the interior.

One of the early efforts at the auditorium style of the Akron Plan is the impressive Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City, built ca. 1880. The famous nineteenth-century composer, Lowell Mason, was minister of music at this church when it was constructed. He spent the last half of his career here and is remembered for his efforts to develop congregational singing. Prior to this, music in most Protestant churches was performed by choirs and ensembles, but rarely as a congregation. When Mason was hired he disbanded the paid choir and had trained singers set in various parts of the auditorium. He had the congregation loosely organized into the four parts of sung harmony. This church quickly developed a huge reputation for the quality of its congregational singing.

As for megachurches, Houston's Second Baptist Church ties with Moody for the cake.

The concept of the church as theater dates from the CounterReformation. Baroque architects such as Bernini and Borromini carefully staged the architecture to focus on the altar where theatrical effects were used, such as opening hidden flaps at key moments in the mass to flood the altar with light from above. They even constructed theater boxes overlooking the altar with statues of the patrons in various poses.

I don't know if anyone has posted this yet but I'll go ahead and post it:

Las Lajas Cathedral:

Las Lajas Cathedral holds the first position in our List on the basis of its beauty. Las Lajas Cathedral was built in 1916 and is located on the border between Ecuador and Colombia. The natural beauty view enhances the attraction of Las Lajas Cathedral to its peak level. The river flowing below the church and the church itself surrounded between the middle of 2 green mountains makes an extraordinary natural beauty view of Las Lajas Cathedral. From tourists point of view they love to stand hours on the bridge of the church enjoying the natural view and viewing the water flowing below the church. Many also say that it’s the 8th wonder of the world.
