Here is one of the great, iconic Modern church buildings - the Chapel of Notre Dame in Ronchamps, France designed by the famed French architect, Le Corbusier (the stork).

Never would have guessed. ;)

I went to England twelve years ago, and totally missed St. Paul's. Got there five minutes after closing.

I went there, walked inside, and then realized I didn't want to pay the outrageous fee to see everything.

Really! How much was the entrance fee?

At this point, I can't even remember. It was well over a decade ago. I just recall that (outside of the British Museum- which is free) everything else was expensive- and by the time we made it to St. Paul's that day- I was done spending money to see another building from the inside.

Could you just go for services and then stick around?

If it was anything like the service I went to at Westminster Abbey- you're only allowed in a very small portion- and everything you'd want to see is blocked off (I know because we also paid to see the rest of it earlier in the day). Even then- some made some snide comments regarding all the 'tourists' wanting to go to the service.

Westminster Cathedral was open to anyone though.

Churches of Lutherland. Hopefully I'll see a lot of these this summer.

Of course, the famous Schloßkirche in Wittenberg, where Luther nailed the 95 these, and where he is buried.

Luther's tomb in the Schloßkirche:

The Stadtkirche in Wittenberg, which, and I quote Wikipedia, "saw the first celebration of the mass in German rather than Latin and the first ever distribution of the bread and wine to the congregation."

Here it is:

Baptismal font at the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul, Eisleben, where Luther was baptized (obviously rebuilt):

Wow, keep them coming. You know, I've been to Eisleben, but I don't believe I ever got to that rebuilt church. Do you know when it was done?

2011. The renovated Church reopened on April 29th, 2012.

The Catholic Cathedral in my hometown:

Here's an interesting story. Before the renovations, a lot of people had forgotten that the interior dome once had artwork, as it was blocked off. When the crew came to repair the roof, they found that the dome was painted and guided (though in need of heavy restoration).

In effect, they had no idea it was there until they knocked a hole in the ceiling while repairing it.
