So saying we know X but don't know Y is not science? Why not? The article is clear on what we do know--that the Antarctic is losing ice at an alarming rate today. And yes, the article admits that we don't fully understand future ice losses. There are so many factors involved. But scientists can view things and predict what is likely to happen. And in the Antarctic, that is not pretty.

Do you also claim that weather forecasters who issue a storm warning based on a perceived likely event are engaging in pseudoscience? It would seem to me that when the best available science predicts a disaster is extremely likely,
one would want to pay attention.
Like climatologists, they're guessing

Accepting climate change would mean changing habits, such as exchanging SUVs for smaller cars.

Those who can't fit their fat butts into anything smaller than an SUV don't want this to happen.
How about if global warming alarmists like Obama share a plane ride with their spouses when they're going to the same destination on the same day. When the alarmists start acting like global warming is real, people will take notice

Do I need a bigger font? Let's try again. What he said was:
I face this challenge with profound humility, and knowledge of my own limitations. But I also face it with limitless faith in the capacity of the American people. Because if we are willing to work for it, and fight for it, and believe in it, then I am absolutely certain that generations from now, we will be able to look back and tell our children that this was the moment when we began to provide care for the sick and good jobs to the jobless; this was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal;
If necessary, there is a bigger font where that one came from.

He was not saying he would do these things. He was saying that he had faith in Americans, and if we as Americans decide to do these things, we Americans can.

Saying that Americans can do things if they set their mind to it as not the same thing as claiming super powers, or that changes will occur just because one is in charge.
In regards to climate change, Obama leads from behind rather than by example, as he does on every other issue

You are wrong. This is exactly how science is done. They EXPLORE and INVESTIGATE and study.

These people are braving the Drake Crossing year after year to study in a very harsh and remote environment and you are sitting safely in your home spreading untruths about them????

Shame.
When they stop short of experimentation and call it settled science, it's actually pseudoscience

Hmmm . . . looks like denial . . . smells like denial . . . attempts to cast doubt like denial . . . . yup, we have denial here, folks.

Without reasons, even.

You would not be satisfied with these people you call 'alarmists' until they all are living off the grid and with no electricity, and walking everywhere.

Then you stil would not believe in global warming.

We won't ever find out how I would react to that because we don't see much of any change in behavior by the alarmists

Well, how about efforts to reduce over all carbon consumption by various legal means such as carbon taxing?

Doesn't that count? Because surely my one little car trip isn't doing much if I forego it, but if gasoline is taxed so that cars make fewer trips over all, that accomplishes something.

So trying to get such measures passed should count.

That's really what global warming is all about, the power to exert control over the lives of others. Nothing more

Well you call yourself a doubter but not a denier why is that? Because perhaps you do not find the concept of denial the same as the concept of doubt?
Some people do deny that climate change caused by human activity is a serious concern. Those are the people that I was calling deniers.

Do you deny that climate change caused by human activity is a serious concern?

Excuse me, but I have been told that exact thing by people more than once. When making a categorical statement It is never a good idea to trust that every one understands the limits of computer modelling.
Oh please, show me one place where an informed scientist ever said, "that the computer models used for prediction [about climate change] are so sophisticated and correct they cannot possibly be in any way mistaken."

That is a straw man. Saying that somebody might possibly have said this does not make it less a straw man.

It is indeed possible that the carbon in the atmosphere contributes to global warming but I am not aware that most scientist claim that global warming is based on the total amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere alone. I beleive that there are several other factors that scientist would say play a part in it even if they think that carbon dioxide is the driving force.

Of course there are other factors. As I mentioned in the opening post, scientists are aware of other possible causes, and have found them to be inadequate to explain what is going on.

Do you deny that we have increased the levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?

Do you deny that carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas and causes temperatures to rise?

Additionally, the burning of fossil fuels is only one source of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. If we were to immediately refrain from burning even one more fossil fuel today there would still be other sources of carbon dioxide contributing to the atmospheric levels of the stuff.
Natural sources of carbon dioxide were basically in balance before we started burning fossil fuels. Carbon dioxide levels basically stayed level for thousands of years. But then we started burning fossil fuels, and the levels rose traumatically.

Excuse me, but why do you judge my motive? I do not judge your motive. Why do you judge mine?

My motive is not one of exerting power to control the lives of others.
My motive is not one of exerting power to control the lives of others.

I told you my motive. My motive is the concern for the world our children will live in.

Ok so your statement that global warming was all about exerting control is completely false? Your statement has nothing to do with people who actually talk about global warming? Yes I agree. Your statement about our motives has nothing to do with our actual motives.

Straw man. Global warming is all about exerting power and control over people. That's why the entire concept hinges on pseudoscience

Global warming is all about exerting power and control over people.

Our motive is not about exercising power and control.
Our motive is not about exercising power and control.

Do I need to repeat that a few more times for your benefit?

Anybody who judges our motives and says our motive is power and control is wrong. That is not our motive.

I do not judge your motives. Why do your judge ours?

Repeat it as often as you want. every global warming alarmist in any position of power promoted the exertion of power and control over people in order to push an agenda, which actually has nothing to do with climate

And basically this is another form of denial of the problem. By ascribing the motive to something other than serious concern for a serious problem, you are implying it is not really a serious problem that needs any serious concern. And that is denial.
