  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

But this is just a "fringe, extremist minority" among Muslims, right?

Afghanistan is a whole different beast compared to the rest of the world of Islam IMHO. last I knew only 30% of them were literate. So where they get their ideas for Islam isn't from the Quran but from whoever tells them what is in the Quran.

That's an interesting side note, but not really an answer to my question.

Careful- they'll close the thread! However, any time people say 'this isn't Islam' and things of that nature, the proper response is what those same types tell Christians. No True Scotsman. Who am I to tell ISIS types they're not true Muslims?

oh, well my answer is that I do not have an answer. Their culture is a bit more complex than most people realize. I didn't get it then and I still don't get it now. You can't just pigeon hole them that easy.

Good point. What is it about religion that makes people want to burn their neighbours?

Here is an interesting article about Christian pastors.

More African Churches are dealing with the troubling problem of Christian pastors torturing and executing “witch children” in the name of their faith

The answer to your question is "yes".

If you hear about thousands of people doing something on a daily basis, in multiple countries and on multiple continents around the world, I'm wondering how that is considered a "fringe, extremist minority". I would define "fringe" and "extreme" as things which occur rarely and involve very vew people.

I'm not trying to pigeon-hole anyone. I'm just wondering, at what point do we openly acknowledge that the "extremist fringe" is becoming a "significant and numerous problem"?

Which is a terrible problem, and likewise is not indicative of what Christianity is or should be. These countries have been partially colonized with a faux form of Christianity and then left to fend for themselves, resulting in this ignorant and off-base form of religion. However, it is not comparable on the scale of the current atrocities being committed in the name of Islam around the world.

It has always been a problem. That's why the US got into this mess, trying to Westernize the world. That's why I call it Afgodforsakenstan. Now, the conservatives want to stay in this country militarily and Obama is giving in. Whether that is good or bad or just not-as-bad is highly debatable.

I liked the situation better when Russia was trying to control it and all we had to do was send arms to the groups that we now fight. Unfortunately, the Russians ran out of money and blood. Maybe we should've backed the Russians.

I am talking about the people of Afghanistan in particular, as per the topic is about, not the entire muslim world. Is it a extremist fringe in Afghanistan? I wish I had the answer to that. The city is quite liberal so that is why I find it shocking. I can expect this sort of thing in Kandahar.

I disagree.

The bible is full of justification for the most despicable and heinous acts, such as murder, genocide, rape, slavery, etc.. Christians using the bible to justify more despicable acts is exactly what I would expect. It's called "Leading by example".

Following the bible is a faux form of Christianity?!???!!

Exodus 22:18 King James Version (KJV)

18 Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

They are demonstrably the true Christians. It is those who would let a witch live that are demonstrably faux Christians.

The answer to your question is "yes".

Right, any time a mob in any city (and it happens just as often in Pakistan) does things like this, just ordinary citizens in ordinary cities, it's always just some lunatic extremist fringe. So believable.

You either are trolling or you as a nonbeliever claim to know what the tenets of Christianity are, and have no business doing it. Africa has a long-standing problem with witchcraft and horrible reaction to it, which has nothing to do with Christianity. Some African Christians are still involved with other African religions and customs, such as witchcraft. Stop your inaccurate, spiteful and
baiting rhetoric.
