  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

  • Can you high jump 12 feet?
  • Run a mile in 12 seconds?
  • Memorize the entire Salt Lake City phone book in an afternoon?

If not, then shall we conclude you are not a believer?
It was Jesus who said all things are possible. By your interpretation with this response, you are suggesting that Jesus is delusional, not me. You don't suppose that perhaps He assumed people were reasonable enough to know that He was referring to the things He has commanded of us, do you? I just double checked in case I missed something, but that list you gave is not included in His commandments. But I could move a mountain if I had enough faith, and a righteous purpose and need to do so.

Got a frog in your pocket who tells you how to interpret the Bible?

Move a mountain, then get back to me. (There is no mention of a righteous purpose in the text, that's your frog talkin')

The "righteous purpose" would mean that it is God's will, and not my personal and prideful agenda to show off. (Ribit!)

But this is a distraction of the real issue and purpose of your challenge. Was Jesus delusional as your response to me suggested? Or are His words true when applied to the things He commands of us that seem impossible?

Do you have the Holy Spirit in your heart that opens up the scriptures to your understanding? The disciples on the road to Emmaus will discribe how you can tell!

Sounds like I don't need to since YOU already have the Holy Spirit's answer. YOU are the ONE... or is it that Frog?

You mangle Emmaus.

Jesus opened the Scriptures to them.

"And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself."

“Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”

The Holy Spirit is not mentioned. Rather the text says:
"They asked each other, “Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?”"

====

Mormons mangle the text to provide a subjective trump card to validate extra Scriptural notions.

A Frog in the pocket would be as dependable.

Don't stop there, please! What was the source and significance of their feelings in their heart? Don't you reckon that Jesus and the HG are one in the same? You wouldn't suppose that Jesus was teaching by the power of the Holy Ghost?
Eph 3:
17 That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love

Deal with what I said. You're just moving on. There is NO STATEMENT as to the source. Unless your froggie is croaking. The KEY in the text is JESUS fulfills the OT Prophecies.

Don't you reckon that Jesus and the HG are one in the same?

They are distinct persons (see Jesus' baptism). They are one God. Curious that we are to baptize in the NAME (singular) of the Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit.

Neither Jesus, the Father or the Holy Spirit is the froggie in yer pocket. And Heavenly Mother is a the fiction of a heretical LDS tune.

Yes, the OT fulfillment was the subject, but there is a bonus truth revealed to us in the account of their experience. Does the Spirit reveal and testify of the truth to a listener, as it is spoken by another who speaks by the power of the Spirit? Does the Spirit dwell in our hearts (if the person gives room for His presence)? Does the heart respond to love? Is God Love?

When you experience it, you will understand. I hope it is soon!

How can we discuss this issue if you will not respond and address the many scriptures I have already presented, and that do not fit the conclusions you draw?

Perhaps we should do one scripture at a time, and you tell me how it harmonizes instead of clashes with your beliefs.

Jesus said ALL things are possible to those who believe.
You declare that it is NOT possible to keep all of His commandments.

I see a clashing discrepancy there. Please discuss this issue.

the scriptures say all fall short of the mark!!

do you think you or anyone but Jesus can live a completely 100 percent sinless life, no not a chance.

Again, if we have to live a totally sinless life after accepting Jesus, how is the new covenant any more glorious than the law?

the irony is here, how come every scripture you decide to quote that you think defends your position is correct, while when it suits saying the bible is only correct as in translation but not complete or as correct as the bom?

you can do all things through Jesus of course if you are called to do it, If Jesus wanted me to travel the world preaching his gospel to millions of people he would empower me to do it and encourage others to help me.

Jesus does make living a blameless life possible, it is called Grace, our sins are covered, that is why we are told "there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus", we can sin, we will sin but our sins will not condemn us, we can do the crime, sin but the crime will not be held against us, clearly we can sin but that is not held against us.

If we can do all things through Christ Jesus can we commit the unpardonable sin?

Have you experienced God's love? really!!!

the love of a God who is your heavenly father??

Or have you been told of a God who demands your perfection every day of your life, if you are not 100 percent every day from now on you will not become a God like him.

if that is the love of God i wouldn't want it!!!

The Love of God, like the father, is the father of the prodigal son, the father who looks constantly night and day for the son who is a long way off, falls short of the Mark you could say, the son who in effect had wished his father dead so he could have his money, blew the money on every carnal thing, broke every law the father had set for his child but when the child comes back before he can even speak the father says clothe him, feed him, restore him to be my son just as he was before because I love him.

now that's the Love of God...the love I see..

Wrong! Your out-of-context proof text says nothing about a burning of the bosom as a test for the correctness of extra-Biblical writings. The burning in the bosom the disciples experienced was because He, Jesus, spoke to them and opened the scriptures to them. There was no question about the authenticity of the scripture that Jesus expounded to the disciples. When Jesus appears to me and expounds the LDS writings to me and I experience a burning in my bosom, I will gladly accept them. But unlike TBM's I will not seek an esoteric, subjective experience as proof of anything.

. There is so much more about the prodigal son you have ommitted. What else can we observe and learn? But your comment is spot on, just incomplete.

Bonus Truths a comin !!!!!

15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.

And in the field I am sure there were froggies. He put one in his pocket.

When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death!

Froggie whispers did the trick.

Thus ended the Bonus Truths.

So Grace rocks seems to be the general consensus.
Eph. 2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Saved by grace through faith. What are the necessary elements and properties that make faith alive and valid?
