Why are some Christians so easily offended?

The whole point of this thread was to show that SOME (not all) Christians do get easily offended by what they perceive as criticism/ ridicule/ mockery - or whatever, of either Christians and/ or Christianity due to essentially a lack of understanding of their own faith.

The fact remains that in the deGrasse Tysons tweet example, he demonstrated that he probably had a better understanding of some of the Christmas related aspects of the Christian faith, and used them to show that the reason that some (religious) people - Christians in this example - get easily offended, is more due to their sheer lack of understanding of their OWN faith rather than anything that could be considered fundamentally offensive in it's own right...

I think humans in general are easily offended. It's a pride thing imo.

Because you didn't know that it was objectively false

I knew as soon as I checked the facts. So who didn't know? Those who didn't check the facts; ie some Christians who got offended and some atheists who were happy to be cheerleaders. I had an atheist try to tell me on another forum that all deGrasse Tyson was doing was commenting on Newton's date of birth, nothing more!

I don't think that being easily offended is the sole preserve of Christians. As someone with an interest in apologetics you surely know this.

Honestly? You give deGrasse Tyson far more credit than he deserves for a series of smug inaccurate tweets. Since when did trolls get so much praise?

I agree with (most) of what you say but what did he say that was inaccurate?

Yes, honestly. I genuinely think there are lots of Christians who think Jesus was born on 25th Dec.

I have no evidence for this claim, and of course one can debate what the definition of a Christian is and so on.....

I'm not praising Tyson by the way - I think he is a pretty arrogant actually, but it's not about praising Tyson, it's about highlighting that Christians - only some mind you - get a tad offended from time to time, unnecessarily in my view....

It was factually inaccurate to say Isaac Newton was born "On this day", because he tweeted it on the 25th Dec by the Gregorian calendar, when Newton was born on 25th Dec by the Julian calendar.

As I've already said, it's only factually accurate if we pretend that there's no difference between the two calendars. Ironic that he then went on to tweet about objective truths when the first premise for his trolling was not.

I bet loads of people have no idea who Jesus is and have no idea of the connection with 25th Dec. But that's not what his tweets were about, they were about trolling, pure and simple.

No doubt this is true. What I'm surprised by is that so few people have taken issue with the factual inaccuracies.
