  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do you really believe that it is only by grace that we are saved or that we are saved by God's grace plus our works which are necessary to prove the effectiveness of His grace? Who are we impressing with our works? Is it God who knows all things or people who can only see our outer lives?

In Jesus' parables how come the servants who are forgiven their debts are considered wicked? When you answer that, then maybe you will understand.

Actually, Mr Kimball was not quoted in the OP, that quote is off an AntiMormon site.

The real quote is talking about Faith Alone. Although there is not much difference between Modern Christianity's understanding of "Faith Alone" and "Grace Alone"

Well, well, well. The OP has now been confirmed as quoting directly from Mr. Kimball's book, yet you said that he was not quoted. If you wish, please provide the real quote.

LOL...
Why?? Because joneysd said so?
Joneysd has proven time and time again, that he has no idea what the gospel of Jesus Christ is, the Bible, or what the LDS believe... You could have picked that up in just a few posts of his.

But hey... I have no problem with you proving me wrong.

It was you who said that the OP was false and not the real quote. So, please show us the real quote so we can discuss it rather than the OP. Otherwise, we only have the OP to discuss.

In view of the emphasis thus far made on the importance of good works in
returning from sin and establishing a repentant life, it may be well to say a
word about the idea of salvation by faith alone. Some people not of our Church
like to quote, in support of that concept, the following words of Paul:
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it
is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast. (Eph. 2:8-9.)
One of the most fallacious doctrines originated by Satan and propounded by man is that man is saved alone by the grace of God; that belief in Jesus Christ alone is all that is needed for salvation.
Miracle of Forgiveness.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Grace is a gift from God why would any prophet attribute Grace to the devil...

Nobody attributed Grace to the devil. "Salvation by grace alone was originated by Satan (p.206)."

You left out the "alone" part.

Grace is the factor that enables salvation, nothing else. Nothing we do has salvific properties. In that sense, Grace alone is correct. Yet there are many stipulations that Christ Jesus has named before He will extend that Grace to us. And it does not negate the free nature of His Grace. So in terms of the overall requirements, Grace is not alone.

One example is that we must forgive one another of trespasses, if we are to be forgiven of our sins against God. If anyone teaches that His Grace will be applied to us without our obedience to His stipulations, it is a lie. Lies are of the devil. Obedience is what develops our faith, and faith is required for Grace It does not necessarily mean that all those who may be deceived and may believe and teach this lie are devilish. Time will tell in the long run.

No need.. I have a signed copy.
However I noticed that you have yet to post the actual quote from page 206, or reference any of your "Real" sources.

so you either haven't read the book or you like calling people a liar because you do not agree with them...

Is the part I highlighted in red the real quote from Mr. Kimball, or just your personal opinion? If you do quote others in your posts, please set them apart with quotation marks so those of us who read them understand them to be actual quotes.

Thank you.

LOL....

I think it's telling that the OP had no quotation marks, was incorrectly attributed to Kimball, and then the whole thing was plagerized.... But you accepted his comments hook line and sinker, yet you are trying to make me jump through hoops to prove every single word, and even then you'll find a reason to reject it.

Now do you understand why it said I no longer bother with sources...
You guys are already predetermined to see only what you want to see, so why should I waste my time?

You seem to enjoy wasting my time as much as I do, so why not answer my question? Was that merely your own opinion or were you parroting another's opinion?

BTW, when will you provide the "real" quotation from Mr. Kimball for discussion or shall I conclude that you don't have any idea about his statements on the topic?

No... You can conclude that I really don't care... All I really said was that he/she was wrong, I could care less whether "you" believe me.... And I could care even less about proving it to you.

You are changing the subject. What you said, and how I replied holds true in 1810, before we had a prophet and temple marriage, etc.
